ABC WoW — Range Alert

Know when your abilities are out of range — and never miss an important ability activation.

ABC WoW — Range Alert is a lightweight combat awareness addon that provides two independent visual notification systems:

• Range Alert: A highly visible circle appears when your selected abilities cannot reach the current target.
• Ability Activation Alert: Large on-screen text highlights selected abilities when they become usable or are activated by a proc.

Both systems are fully configurable and help you react faster without constantly watching your action bars.

Range Alert

Select the abilities you want to monitor, and the addon automatically checks whether your current target is within their usable range.

When a selected ability is out of range, a customizable circle appears in the center of your screen.

Features:

• Choose exactly which abilities to monitor.
• Automatically recognize friendly, hostile, and neutral targets.
• Show the warning when ANY selected ability is out of range, or only when ALL checked abilities are out of range.
• Optionally ignore minimum-range dead zones to avoid unnecessary warnings when a target is too close.
• Customize the circle's size, color, and transparency.
• Automatically hide the warning when the target returns to a valid range.
• Test the warning directly from the settings panel.

The addon uses WoW's native spell and action-bar range checks rather than estimating distances.

Ability Activation Alert

Some abilities become available only under certain conditions, such as reactive combat abilities or temporary procs.

Instead of relying entirely on action-bar highlights, Range Alert can display their names in large, prominent text.

Features:

• Select abilities independently from the Range Alert list.
• Detect native spell activation overlays and proc highlights.
• Monitor ability usability, including certain reactive conditions.
• Display the names of active abilities in large text.
• Show multiple active ability names simultaneously.
• Adjust the notification position using X/Y offsets.
• Preview the notification with the built-in test button.

Note: The activation alert follows the game's spell usability and activation indicators. A displayed ability is not necessarily a guaranteed proc or an ability ready to cast regardless of other conditions.

Configuration

All settings are accessible through:

Game Menu → Options → AddOns → ABC WoW — Range Alert

The configuration panel includes:

• Searchable spell list populated from your spellbook
• Separate Range and Activation selection modes
• Range warning behavior
• Circle appearance settings
• Activation notification positioning
• Test buttons and diagnostics
• Enable/disable controls

Your selections and preferences are saved between game sessions.

How It Works

Range Alert relies on World of Warcraft's built-in APIs, including:

• C_Spell — Spell information, range checks, and usability
• C_SpellBook — Available abilities and spellbook data
• C_ActionBar — Additional range and usability checks
• Spell Activation Overlay API — Proc and activation notifications

It does not calculate exact distances in yards, automate combat actions, or require external libraries.
