Sims can ask to be just friends after breaking up a relationship or divorce. This will fix the negative relationship.
You can also use this mod to fix the bug that Sims cannot be romantic with each other after a couple ages up from teen to young adult. That bug was introduced with Lovestruck. You'll have to build their romance back up, though.
