A tiny text override mod for the Get to Work portal, replacing its sci-fi wording with more medieval alternatives for fantasy and occult saves. I made it for my Demon's Lair: Dungeon build, a horror-themed monastery with a dungeon and a portal surrounded by bonfires and dark altars.
But I think you can use it in any fantasy save! I might upload the portal room as a separate build in the future too.
🌀 Portal Text
The override changes several text strings associated with the portal, including interaction names, descriptions, and moodlets.
For example:
- Alien → Strange Creature
- Alien Aura Serum → Otherworldly Aura Serum
- Attempt Contact → Call to What Lies Beyond
I kept the new wording general enough to work in a regular Scientist career save too, so you can use this mod in both modern and fantasy saves.
⚙️ About the Portal Upgrade
I left the Electroflux Wormhole Generator name unchanged because upgrading the portal requires the Invention Constructor, a modern scientific device that doesn't belong in a fantasy castle anyway.
But if you'd like an alternative name for the upgraded portal too, let me know in the comments and I'll add it.
🧩 Compatibility
This is a very lightweight mod. As lightweight as possible. All it does is replace a few lines of text, so it should work alongside all other mods without any issues. The only potential conflict is with another mod that edits the same text strings.
👁️ Summon Your Own Creatures
As you can see in the screenshots, I mostly use the portal to summon aliens I've customized to look like dark fantasy creatures. It's fun.
You don't need any mods to summon aliens — this feature is already included in the Get to Work pack. Just click Call to What Lies Beyond (originally Attempt Contact) multiple times and there's a random chance that something will come through the portal. It won't happen every time, though!
If you want to avoid the game constantly generating new random aliens, you'll need the No New Random Townie Generated mod by Cepzid. If the game can't randomly generate a new Sim, it'll choose one of your customized aliens/creatures instead.
