Autonomous Wants makes Wants a meaningful part of your Sims’ personalities. Instead of remaining mere suggestions, they become impulses your Sims can act on. Every so often, Sims in your active household check their current Wants, and when the right Sim, object, or opportunity is nearby, they may get up and pursue one on their own!

How It Works

Every Sim in your played household now has a hidden Fulfillment commodity that gradually decays over time. The longer their Wants are ignored, the stronger their urge to act on one autonomously becomes.

When a Sim decides to act, the mod searches for a real way to satisfy one of their Wants. It might find the right object, a crafting station that can make the requested item, or a nearby Sim who fits the goal. If nothing suitable is available, the Sim carries on with their day as usual, and the Want stays on hold until the right opportunity turns up.

Want selection is weighted by urgency:

  • Reactionary Wants are most likely to be chosen while they are still relevant.
  • Short-term Wants receive moderate priority.
  • Long-term Wants remain in the background until the right opportunity arises.
  • Fear-related Wants are not considered at this time (future update).

📌 Any Wants you pin are excluded from autonomy, leaving them for you to complete yourself. 📌

Completing any Want, whether autonomously or with your direction, restores Fulfillment. The amount restored depends on the Want type: Reactionary Wants provide a small boost, Short-Term Wants restore more, and completing a Long-Term Want fills the meter entirely. Sims also recover gradually while making meaningful progress toward larger goals, such as writing a novel or crafting for several hours.

Custom Wants work automatically as long as they use the game’s standard goal structure. Many of MissyHissy's custom wants, for instance, work out of the box.

Additional Effects

  • Sims whose Wants have been neglected for a while gain Fun more slowly.
  • A Sim who arrives at work with a career tone Want, such as Slack Off, Work Hard, or Make Connections, has a chance to autonomously choose that tone for the day.
  • A Sim who Wants to listen to music will choose a genre they like and avoid any genres they dislike.

Exceptions

Autonomous Wants currently ignores the following Wants:

  • Fears and Confrontation Wants. A separate system for these is planned.
  • Buy Mode and Build Mode Wants.
  • Travel Wants. Wants that require visiting another lot or world are not autonomously pushed.
  • Career-changing Wants. Autonomous Wants will not make Sims join, change, or quit careers.
  • Relationship-changing Wants. Autonomous Wants will not initiate proposals, weddings, breakups, new friendships, rivalries, or similar life-changing decisions. A separate system for these is planned.
  • Rare or highly context-dependent Wants. This includes goals such as collecting a specific item at a specific festival.

Your Sims can still fulfill any of these themselves; Autonomous Wants simply will not do it for them.

Compatibility

  • This mod does not directly overwrite any game files so it will not conflict with other mods.
  • This mod is base game compatible

This mod was made possible by Sims 4 Studio and Tuning Builder.
