Yep, the Ice Set from Sims Freeplay is here! FINALLY!
I have to admit, my enthusiasm for mods and CC creation is starting to wane. I've mostly done everything I set out to do conversion-wise. Every Reaper, every robot, the Plantsims, and even the gnomes were what I wanted to do when I started this crazy CC journey. But, even with not-that-great textures the Ice set is really nice and I've had the models in raw format sitting on my desktop for ages. But Freeplay is still the most annoying game to rip from and the Ice set has emissions on every single item.
Every. Single. Item. Think about that!
Unlike my old Haunted Items conversions I was able to figure out how to convert Freeplay's wallpaper to the Sims 4's. Lemme tell you, that was .... a whole journey. A journey I was able to take thanks to the jpg artifact remover neural filter now found in Photoshop! With that the quality was good enough to actually use. But even still, as textures, they're meant to cover around three times as much as the wallpaper found in the Sims four. And emission maps. Do you think they're the same as on Objects? NO!!! It took painstaking amounts of trial and error to get them just right for each size. You'd think they would start at 0,0 like the diffuse map, right? WRONG!! For the second largest size I had to cut them in half and for the longest wall height I had to cut them in half and THEN find where they repeat because they just aren't aligned.
That's not even getting into figuring out how to make the glowing walls and floors from Get Together basegame so I could effect all these changes.
And the lights. Lemme tell you about lights in the Sims 4. You just can't have lightmaps AND vertex illumination. Meaning you can't have a glowing thing AND have it light up right. You know what I had to do to make the lights work like they have to? I had to use a fireplace of all things. I picked one which had two textures. One gets to glow. One gets to have illumination. The one with the full illumination works with a glow only using the fullbright shader. But that shader does exactly like it says - illuminates the entire mesh! I don't want my lamp post all lit up, just the part with the light, thanks! So the candles and the lamp post all use the fireplace mesh and custom tuning that sets the state to "lit" so that the "lit" mesh can have that fullbright shader I was talking about.
Do you think i knew that going in? GAH! What a pain.
After doing all of this I didn't have much heart to try and rip much more from the castle mesh itself. First off it's in several parts. So, right away, it'll be a pain. And then the set already has several windows. Am I really missing much by not trying to rip the ones from the castle walls? I think not.
The roof tiles also follow a different format to 4's and I can't but wonder if they were worth it. They don't totally translate, but I did my best here.
I also started to compare how the Ice spiral staircase matched up to the new custom ones that have been made. As I figured they steps are pretty different. I'm too burnt out on this set to give it more of an effort. It may be possible to convert Freeplay's spiral staircases, but I think it would require a great deal of remeshing to get the steps themselves to line up.
