Resource Atlas

Map and minimap tracker for gathering nodes and Anima Vents. Marks ore, trees, fishing, and farm plots with live respawn timers to track node respawns.

ResourceAtlas

See every gathering spot in Ashenfall on your map, and know when each one comes back.

ResourceAtlas marks over 8,200 resource nodes and Anima Vents across the world map, 3D world space, and compatible minimap mods: fishing spots, ore and rocks, rune essence, geysers, rare trees, farm plots, and all 7 types of Anima Vents. Depleted spots turn grey and display a countdown to their return so you never walk to an empty node again. Engineered for rock-solid framerates, ResourceAtlas features dynamic minimap zoom tracking, circular bounds culling, strict entity budgeting, smart world-map clustering, anti-overlap spreading, and consolidated crop tracking.

What's New in V1.5: Practical Minimap Tracking (mod does not include its own minimap this is to support players using other mini map mods)

  • Adaptive Minimap Zoom Following: ResourceAtlas now detects how far your minimap mod views and follows its zoom level in real time. Zoom out and distant resources appear; zoom in and off-screen markers are immediately discarded. (Defaults to a 150m radius if minimap telemetry cannot be read).
  • Circular Masking: Circular minimaps are now calculated with true radial distance rather than square bounds, preventing off-screen corner nodes from wasting frame time.
  • Hard Icon Capping (MapMinimapMax = 40): Minimap resource icons are strictly capped at 40 (prioritizing the nearest nodes first), preventing massive FPS drops in dense hubs while keeping your immediate surroundings fully tracked.
  • Unified 10-Second Purge: When the world map (M) is closed, all extra world-map icons are pruned after 10 seconds—even when MapOnMinimap = true is active (down from 30 seconds in V1.4).
  • Updated MapRadius Default: MapRadius now defaults to "auto" to mirror your minimap mod's zoom automatically. You can still define a manual distance in meters or set 0 for unlimited.

Minimap Performance & Frame Impact

Because third-party minimap mods (such as Mini Map) calculate every registered map entity on every frame, displaying resources on your minimap carries a measurable processing cost:

  • Per-Icon Cost: ~0.02 ms per frame per icon on a standard gaming CPU.
  • V1.5 Impact (Capped at 40 icons): Under 1 ms per frame total (~5% to 9% FPS difference on CPU-limited systems, negligible on GPU-limited systems).
  • V1.4 Comparison: In dense areas (up to 300 icons), uncapped tracking cost ~5 ms per frame, causing frame drops from ~100 FPS down to ~67 FPS. V1.5 completely prevents this spike.
Optimization Tip: If you notice frame drops while using a minimap mod, lower MapMinimapMax in config.lua (setting it to 20 roughly halves the cost) or leave MapOnMinimap = false. The full world map (M) always shows all nodes regardless of this setting.

Key Features

  • Adaptive Minimap Support: Seamless integration with minimap mods. When MapOnMinimap = true is enabled, nearby nodes follow your minimap's circular radius and zoom level with an optimized 40-node priority cap.
  • Self-Cleaning World Map & Throttled Checks: Ten seconds after closing the world map, all map icon entities are automatically purged from memory. Nodes and boundary rings regenerate fresh the moment the map is reopened. Disabled legend categories have background polling throttled to once every 10 seconds.
  • Consolidated Smart Farming: Floating farm text merges automatically by crop type rather than repeating over every single plot (e.g., "Redberries ×25: 5 ready, the rest in ~5m 10s"). Contextual alerts only appear when attention is required, shifting the label to yellow (e.g., "needs water - no compost", "3 need water", or "2 diseased!"). Empty plots and weeds collapse into single summary labels ("Weeds ×3: clear the plots").
  • Dedicated Floating Slot Pools & 100m Range: In-world floating icons detect nodes up to 100 meters away, making it easy to scout fishing pools across open water. Farm labels operate on an independent display quota (OverlayMaxPlots), ensuring large crop patches never crowd out or despawn nearby resource and fishing markers.
  • Full Anima Vent Tracking: Tracks all 227 Anima Vents across the world map and 3D world space. Covers all 7 rune types (Air, Water, Earth, Fire, Nature, Law, and Astral) with dedicated rune icons and purple boundary rings. Siphoning a vent dry triggers a live engine-level respawn countdown.
  • Anti-Overlap Icon Spreading: Resources sharing identical coordinates—such as Anima Vents seated directly atop rune essence rocks or geysers—automatically fan out into a clean circular cluster. Zooming in snaps each pin directly back to its exact point of origin.
  • Clutter-Free World Map Grouping: Nearby resources of the same type automatically merge into a single icon with a count (e.g., "Copper ×12"). Hover over any group to see ready vs. depleted ratios and return timers. Small clusters (≤ 5) detail individual node states in the tooltip, while zooming in splits groups back into standalone pins.
  • Lag-Free Map Panning: Panning or dragging the world map freezes cluster calculations dynamically until one second after camera movement stops, cutting panning calculation overhead by 60% to 80%.
  • Click-Through Lodestones & Native UI Priority: Resource pins render strictly behind native game elements. Lodestones, quest markers, player waypoints, and your character arrow always sit on top and remain clickable for instant fast travel and navigation.
  • Detailed Markers & Identification Rings: Every fishing spot, ore vein, essence deposit, geyser, and rare tree (yew, magic, maple, willow) features an individual icon and colored identification ring. Fishing spots clearly display the specific fish they contain.
  • Persistent Respawn Timers: Depleted nodes and siphoned vents count down until they return, with all timers preserved across game restarts and world saves.
  • Interactive Map Legend (F4): A 280px-wide sidebar interface with text truncation, category toggles, ready/depleted visibility filters, and live node counters (e.g., "899/908").
  • Proximity Tracker (F6): Lists the nodes and vents respawning soonest, or locks onto the nearest ready nodes with live distance and directional bearings.
  • Quick Hotkeys: Press F5 to toggle the entire resource overlay on or off; press F4 to open the keyboard-navigable legend; press F6 to access the proximity tracker.

Configuration (config.lua)

Updating the mod replaces config.lua. If you customized your settings, reapply your edits after updating. Saved in-game legend choices and category filters persist automatically across updates.

Setting Default Description
MapOnMinimap false Enables resource pins on third-party minimap mods (such as Mini Map) while the world map is closed. Leave false for maximum FPS.
MapMinimapMax 40 New in V1.5. Hard cap on total icons maintained for your minimap mod (nearest nodes first). Lower to 20 on slower CPUs to save frames.
MapRadius "auto" Updated in V1.5. Detection distance for minimap mod pins. "auto" matches your minimap's dynamic zoom. Can also be set to a fixed distance in meters, or 0 for unlimited. Only active when MapOnMinimap = true.
MapPoolSize 300 Maximum active map icons allocated at once on the world map. Lower for higher FPS; raise for zoomed-out detail.
MapGroupOverlap 0.6 Grouping sensitivity on the big map. Lower values create smaller, tighter clusters.
MapSpread true Spreads overlapping co-located icons into a small circle. Set to false for raw pin drops.
MapLegendWidth 280 Width of the in-game map legend interface in pixels.
MapBadge "map" Coloured ring display: "map" (world map only), true (everywhere), or false (disabled).
MapFullWhenOpen true Set to false to limit the world map view to MapRadius, mirroring minimap behavior.
OverlayRange 100 Detection distance (in meters) for in-world floating 3D icons.
OverlayMax 24 Maximum floating in-world markers rendered for gathering resources.
OverlayMaxPlots 6 Maximum consolidated farm group labels shown at once, independent of OverlayMax.

Requirements, Installation & Updating

  • Requirement: UE4SS
  • First-Time Installation: Extract the ResourceAtlas folder into RSDragonwilds\Binaries\Win64\ue4ss\Mods\ and ensure it is enabled in mods.txt.
  • How to Update: Replace the existing ResourceAtlas folder in RSDragonwilds\Binaries\Win64\ue4ss\Mods with the one in the update zip, then launch the game.
Note on Initial World Load: Upon entering a world, the mod takes roughly 15 seconds to complete background initialization of resource nodes. Opening the map earlier will show pins populating in real time as they index.

Author's Note

I am a one-man team doing this for fun. Please report any issues or feature requests and I will get back to you ASAP! No issue is too small. If it impacts your gameplay in any way or you think something could be done better, let me know.

Community Impact

  • kreeg: Reported severe resource drain from the mod. I identified the issue as minimap overhead caused by off-screen icon updates and found that dense farms were consuming all 24 floating icon slots. This led directly to the V1.3/V1.4/V1.5 performance rewrites, dynamic memory purges, and dedicated crop label pooling.
  • Nilmar_: Reported FPS drops and issues with the map overlay interfering with lodestone click targets on 10/09/26. Both bugs were resolved within hours of the report.
