Description

Wheelbarrows [LERT]
Carry more. Make fewer hauling trips. Keep your colony organized.
Wheelbarrows [LERT] adds three craftable wheelbarrows to RimWorld: wooden, steel, and plasteel. Adult colonists can borrow an available cart, gather different resources into one mixed load, deliver them to suitable stockpiles, and return the empty wheelbarrow to a dedicated parking zone.
Compatibility: RimWorld 1.6 (tested)
Required mod: Harmony
Languages: English and Ukrainian

Three Craftable Wheelbarrows

Wooden Wheelbarrow
- Cargo capacity bonus: +100 kg
- Movement: 20% slower while using the cart
- Crafting cost: 80 wood
- Crafting station: Crafting spot
- Research: Available from the start
Steel Wheelbarrow
- Cargo capacity bonus: +150 kg
- Movement: Capped at 4.6 cells/second; never speeds up slower pawns
- Crafting cost: 100 steel
- Crafting station: Fueled or electric smithy
- Research: Smithing
Plasteel Wheelbarrow
- Cargo capacity bonus: +200 kg
- Movement: Preserves the colonist's normal movement speed
- Crafting cost: 60 plasteel + 40 steel
- Crafting station: Machining table
- Research: Machining
Important: These are capacity bonuses, not fixed total cargo amounts. Actual usable cargo mass depends on the colonist's native carrying capacity plus the wheelbarrow bonus, minus the mass of equipment and inventory.
Key Features

- Mixed-resource hauling: Carry different eligible item types in the same wheelbarrow.
- Nearby collection: Gather from accessible stacks within a 4-cell radius.
- Partial stack pickup: Take only what fits when the full stack would exceed available capacity.
- Smart stockpile delivery: Respect storage filters, priority, and available space.
- Furniture transport: Carry eligible empty, minified furniture together with other items.
- Colonist control: Individually enable the Use wheelbarrows toggle for each adult colonist. It is disabled by default.
- Parking zones: Designate parking spaces with wheelbarrow-type restrictions, return priorities, and optional vegetation-clearing designations.
- Resume interrupted tasks: Use the Continue work and Finish work right-click commands after interruptions such as drafting.
- Save-game persistence: Wheelbarrows, cargo, and settings are retained in saved games.
How to Install
- Use a legitimate copy of RimWorld 1.6.
- Install Harmony (required): Harmony on Steam Workshop.
- Extract the LertWheelbarrows folder into your local
RimWorld/Modsdirectory. - In the mod list, enable Lert's Wheelbarrows after Core and Harmony. If you use Common Sense or Deep Stack, load Wheelbarrows after them as well.
- Restart RimWorld, craft a wheelbarrow, and enable Use wheelbarrows for the adult colonists you want to use it.
Installation note: Manual installation is verified. One-click Vortex installation has not been tested.

How It Works
Once allowed to use wheelbarrows, an adult colonist can borrow a free cart for regular storage hauling. The cart collects eligible items from nearby accessible stacks, transports mixed cargo to different acceptable stockpiles, and returns to an appropriate parking area when the job is finished.
Cargo that has no acceptable stockpile is normally unloaded near the parking area. In some circumstances, cargo may remain inside the cart for a later attempt.
Current Limitations and Save Safety
- Adult human colonists only: Children, animals, and mechanoids do not currently use wheelbarrows.
- Existing objects only: The mod does not trigger harvesting, mining, or logging.
- Storage hauling only: It does not replace ingredient delivery, construction hauling, refueling, feeding, carrying pawns or corpses, or caravan systems.
- No nested containers: Empty minified furniture is supported, but nested cargo containers are not.
- No wheel physics or autonomous transport: There are no separate wheel-physics simulations, animal-drawn carts, or automatic cross-map movement.
- Unassigned cargo: Items without an acceptable stockpile are generally unloaded near the parking zone, although some cargo may stay in the cart until a later attempt.
- Known minor behavior: Occasionally, two small stacks can trigger an unnecessary cart-fetch trip.
- Save-game caution: Test the mod on a copy of your save first. Back up your save before uninstalling; safe removal of already-placed carts from an existing save is not guaranteed.
