Description
Kindlewood Bosses is a boss framework: every boss is a datapack file, so packs and servers can make their own without code. It is part of the Kindlewood RPG mods and needs Kindlewood Core.
What a boss can do
- Be built on any mob, with multipliers for health and damage, a size, armor and a weapon, or wear your own animated model from a resource pack, no code needed: GeckoLib-animated bosses play a matching move for every ability, and a death animation when they fall.
- Change phase at health thresholds, each phase with its own abilities.
- Abilities: slam (damage and knock up everyone nearby), charge, arrow volley, summon extra mobs, enrage, heal, shield, pull (drag players in and slow them), blink (teleport behind its target) and hazard (a burning patch on the ground), each with its own cooldown and numbers.
- Show a boss bar to everyone within 48 blocks.
- Grow tougher with every extra player in the fight.
- Stay in its arena: with a leash, a boss dragged too far from where it was summoned returns home and heals, so it can't be lured away and picked apart.
- Drop its own loot table (Kindlewood RPG rolls rarity and affixes on its gear), and run commands for each player in the fight when it falls, for quest rewards.
Three bosses are included, each with its own animated model: Hollowtusk the Unburied, a boar-skulled undead giant who slams, charges and drags you in with a stone maul; Morrowvane, the Ember Archivist, a hooded scholar who hovers in a singed robe with a lantern staff and a circling tome, looses burning arrows, scorches the ground and blinks behind you; and Clinkerjaw, Eldest of the Brood, a wingless slag drake that rears up to stamp, spits molten slag, hardens its crust and, once wounded, splits its belly open to pour out magma cubes and flings glowing clinker shards that set you alight.
The Ember-Eater: a new Ender Dragon fight
Kindlewood Bosses also overhauls the Ender Dragon, on the server, on top of its usual flight:
A new body: the Ender Dragon gets its own animated model: charred, obsidian-scaled, a furnace glowing in its chest, a horned crest, ember-veined wings and a bladed tail, with moves for every attack. (Players who prefer the vanilla dragon can switch the model off in the client config; it keeps the ember glow.)
The Ember Sweep: it draws a long breath, then makes a low, straight pass breathing fire, leaving a trail of dragon's breath clouds behind it (yes, you can bottle them).
Every phase is a moment: the dragon flares and throws you back, and its boss bar turns purple, then red. Deaths say what got you ("caught in the open by the Ember-Eater's Nova").
Three phases. The Circling adds fans of dragon fireballs; The Hunt marks a player with a ring that strikes two seconds later (get out!) and opens rifts that bring in Endermen; The Last Stand has it perch more often to roar (lifting everyone into the air) and charge a Nova that hits everyone who can see its head. Hide behind a pillar.
Breaking a crystal hits back: a shockwave and two Void Mites.
Ascension: every time the dragon falls it comes back stronger the next time it's summoned, up to Ascension X, with more health, harder attacks and better rewards.
Made for groups: health grows with the number of players, and every player who helped gets their own reward.
Every attack and number can be changed or switched off in
kindlewood_bosses-server.toml.
For pack makers and server owners
- Bosses live in
data/<namespace>/kindlewood_bosses/boss/<name>.json. Give them a name in a lang file underboss.<namespace>.<name>. Optional lines of their own:boss.<namespace>.<name>.phase1(shown when the second phase starts;.phase2for the third…),.defeated,.leashed,.sigil/.sigil.2(lore lines on the Summoning Sigil), and.ability.<type>(the name of an ability, e.g..ability.slam, shown in Kindlewood Death Recap when it hits you). Without them the bosses use the shared lines. - Bring your own model: set
"entity": "kindlewood_bosses:modelled"and"model": "mypack:frost_giant", then put a GeckoLib (Blockbench) model in a resource pack:geo/entity/frost_giant.geo.json,textures/entity/frost_giant.png(plus an optionalfrost_giant_glowmask.pngfor parts that glow) andanimations/entity/frost_giant.animation.jsonwith any ofanimation.frost_giant.idle,walk,attack,deathand one per ability (slam, charge, summon…). Size it withscale, and give a long or low model a hitbox that fits with"size": {"width": 3.0, "height": 2.0}(in blocks, beforescale). Missing pieces fall back safely: a model that can't be found shows Hollowtusk, and a missing animation is simply skipped. - What a volley fires:
"projectile": "kindlewood_bosses:clinker_shard"on avolleyability throws smoking slag shards that also set the target alight; any other projectile entity works too (minecraft:arrowis the default, sominecraft:small_fireballor another mod's projectile can be named). - Fire immune:
"fire_immune": truekeeps a boss from burning: fire, lava and being set alight don't hurt it. /kwboss summon <boss> [pos]summons one,/kwboss sigil <boss> <players>hands out a Summoning Sigil, and/kwboss listshows them all. Sigils can also come from quests or loot.- Fair on servers: a Summoning Sigil won't work inside spawn protection, within 32 blocks of another boss, or in someone else's FTB Chunks claim; each player can have one sigil boss out at a time and use a sigil every 10 minutes, and a sigil boss left alone for 5 minutes leaves. All of it is in
config/kindlewood_bosses-summoning-server.toml(/kwboss summonignores the limits). - Other mods can listen for
BossDefeatedEvent.
