Nytheria Xaero Icons

A resource pack for Minecraft 1.21.1 that gives real radar and world map icons to mobs that Xaero's Minimap would otherwise show as a plain dot.

It adds 241 sprites and 217 icon definitions for Xaero's Minimap (and Xaero's World Map, which draws the minimap's radar). Every sprite is pixel art in the same style as the icons of the common Xaero icon packs: one texture pixel per sprite pixel, a head or a whole small mob, with Xaero drawing the black outline itself.

The pack works with or without the mod Nytheria Xaero Icon Fix. They do not depend on each other, but they work well together: Icon Fix draws players on the radar correctly, this pack covers the mobs.

Why these mobs were dots?

• GeckoLib mobs. Xaero's automatic icon needs a vanilla living-entity renderer and model. GeckoLib mobs have neither, so the icon fails and you get a dot.
• Icon packs with texture keys only. A definition that lists textures but no default falls back to the automatic icon for every texture it does not list, and that fails for GeckoLib mobs.
• Fresh Animations (Entity Model Features). Fresh Animations replaces the vanilla model parts, and Xaero's automatic icon draws the wrong thing or nothing.
• Texture names from newer Minecraft versions. Icon Fresh 1.3 keys chickens, cows and pigs by 1.21.5 texture names (temperate_*), but Minecraft 1.21.1 with Vanilla Backport uses the old names. Saddled pigs and striders are not listed at all.

Mobs covered

217 mobs in total.

Mobs with several skins or colours (Pumpkin Warden, Butterfly, Jellyfish, Llama, Trader Llama, Oddion, Man o' War, Ocean Creeper, chickens, cows, pigs, striders) have one sprite per variant. Fish and most other mobs use one sprite for all variants.

Not covered on purpose

• Players. Use Nytheria Xaero Icon Fix for those.
• Snow Golem and Creeper. Winter Overhaul and Creeper Overhaul give them GeckoLib renderers, but Icon Fresh and Icon Xaero's already have sprite definitions for them, as long as those packs are enabled.
• Villagers and zombie villagers. Icon Fresh 1.3 already handles them.
• Mobs that Xaero's automatic icon already draws correctly.
• Two entities with nothing to draw: Galosphere's spectator_vision (an invisible camera helper) and Simply Swords' soulstalker_stride (a line-drawn visual effect). They stay a dot.

Requirements

• Minecraft 1.21.1 (resource pack format 34)
• Xaero's Minimap 26.5.0 for 1.21.1. Xaero's World Map shows the same icons.
• The mods above, for the mobs you want icons for. Nothing else is required. The Fresh Animations pack is not needed: the sprites are already drawn.

Pack order: put this pack on top

Xaero reads an icon definition file from only the highest resource pack that has it. It does not merge packs. Put Nytheria Xaero Icons at the top of your resource pack list, above every other Xaero icon pack (Icon Xaero's, Icon Fresh and similar). If it is lower, another pack's definition for the same mob replaces this one and the dot comes back.

Packs that this pack builds on

A few definitions reuse sprites from two other icon packs instead of copying them. Those packs must stay enabled, below this one:

• Icon Xaero's 1.22: Oddion, Man o' War, Ocean Creeper, and the default and pale Pumpkin Warden (including their hiding forms). This pack adds the missing default entry, and the cheery, frowny and silly Pumpkin Warden sprites.
• Icon Fresh 1.3: chickens, cows, pigs and striders. This pack adds the 1.21.1 texture names, saddled pigs and striders, and a default entry.

If one of these packs is missing, only those mobs are affected: their sprites cannot be found and they show as a dot again. Every other mob in the table above is self-contained.

Installation

1. Put Nytheria Xaero Icons.zip in your resourcepacks folder (or use Options > Resource Packs > Open Pack Folder).
2. Enable it and move it to the top of the active list.
3. If you use Icon Xaero's or Icon Fresh, keep them enabled below it.
4. If a mob still shows a dot after changing the pack list, press F3+T to reload the resource packs.

Notes

• Not needed on a server. Resource packs load on the client.
• Sprites are generated from each mob's own model and texture, in the rest pose. They contain no baked outline, Xaero adds it.
• Mobs that use Fresh Animations models were drawn from those models, so they look like they do in game with Fresh Animations.

Free to include in any modpack. Keep it above the other Xaero icon packs in the pack's default resource pack order.
