Description
Nytheria Quests is the companion mod of the Nytheria modpack for Ember's Questing. It counts real gameplay for quests, carries the Wayfarer story, and exports what the pack contains for the people who write its quests.
It is made for the Nytheria modpack and only supported there. The mod holds no story and no quests of its own: the story and the quests come from the pack as data. A pack that adds no story data gets the quest features below and nothing else.
What it does
Quests that count real gameplay. A requirement is a small JSON file in config/nytheriaquests/requirements/. A quest of Ember's Questing binds it with the task type nytheriaquests, and the mod feeds the task with what the player really does: eating, crafting, fishing, placing and breaking blocks, killing and taming, breeding, trading, sleeping, changing dimension, advancements, statistics, and standing somewhere for a time (in a biome, near a lit campfire, inside a structure, at night). Each requirement can show an action bar line, play a sound or throw particles. A reward of type nytheriaquests pays the story's coins and grants.
The Wayfarer story. A story is a set of data files and a resource pack that the modpack supplies. The mod plays it:
- a wallet of story coins and numbered torn pages that are found in chests and fused into a journal;
- the journal, a screen on key L drawn from the pack's resource pack, which shows the quest book as a road and opens Ember's Questing at the right chapter;
- a story character (one entity type, models and animations through GeckoLib), a line box for her words with replies on the keys 1 to 3, optional voice-over in the Voice sound category, and conversations the player can skip with Enter;
- a fire that answers an ember with signs, glimpses and a stock, a trail of signs to a clearing, and a boss fight in it with the ending that follows;
- a keeper at a lantern the team sets down, with a wares screen, requests, an epilogue page and a ward that acts on the area and the player;
- quest book bindings (the
story_factrequirement, wallet and grant reward tags) and operator commands to check and change a story's state.
The Atlas. /nytheriaquests atlas writes an export of everything the running game knows about the pack: registries, items, blocks, entities, worldgen, recipes, tags, advancements, loot tables with their chances, structures, where mobs spawn and what they drop, and the graph that links them. /nqatlas icons draws every item into a PNG from the client. Both are for planning quests; they change nothing in the world.
Checks for pack authors. /nytheriaquests story validate and /nytheriaquests eq validate list what is wrong with the story files, the requirement files and the quest index against the loaded book, and /nytheriaquests eq explain <quest> says why a task is or is not counting.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.21.1, Fabric Loader 0.19.1 or newer, Java 21
- Ember's Questing 1.3.1 or newer. Nytheria Quests is an addon of it. It is not included in this mod and not redistributed by it: install it as its own mod, under its own licence
- Fabric API (built against 0.116.17+1.21.1; use a current 1.21.1 build)
- GeckoLib 4.9.3 or newer. It is not bundled: install it as its own mod
- FTB Teams is optional. With it a party is a story team and the quest mod's team owner, without it every player is a team of one
- FTB Quests must not be installed. The mod refuses to start with it. A pack that keeps FTB Quests cannot use this mod
- Install it on the server and on every client. The mod registers entities, blocks, items and a particle type, so a client without it cannot join
Scope
- It works with Ember's Questing only. Nothing of Ember's Questing is copied into it.
- Operator commands (
/nytheriaquests, alias/nq) need permission level 2. The one command for players,/nqkeeper, acts only for the player who types it and only beside the keeper. - Not built: the hush of phase II of the boss fight (the sound dropping away). The adapter for Open Parties and Claims has only been tested against a stand-in of its API, never a real claim.
- A world that was played with QuestBridge keeps its Ember's Questing progress, but QuestBridge's own world data (journal, glimpses, client memory) does not carry over to the new name.
