Minecraft: Story Mode-inspired shaders for Minecraft Java Edition.
Not So MCSM is a fan-made shader pack designed to recreate the lighting, skies, atmosphere, colors, and cinematic feeling of Minecraft: Story Mode inside regular Minecraft.
Rather than turning Minecraft into an ultra-realistic game, Not So MCSM tries to make Minecraft feel like you're exploring an environment from Minecraft: Story Mode.
WHAT IS MCSM?
MCSM stands for Minecraft: Story Mode, an episodic adventure game originally developed by Telltale Games.
Story Mode had a recognizable visual style compared with normal Minecraft. It featured cinematic lighting, colorful skies, atmospheric fog, dramatic nights, bright sunsets, stronger shadows, and special lighting during important scenes.
Not So MCSM attempts to recreate that feeling as a playable Minecraft shader.
WHAT DOES NOT SO MCSM CHANGE?
Not So MCSM changes Minecraft's overall presentation while keeping the game's blocky appearance.

The goal isn't to make Minecraft look like real life.
THE GOAL IS TO MAKE MINECRAFT LOOK AND FEEL MORE LIKE MCSM.
BOSS VISUALS
Not So MCSM contains special visual effects for supported boss encounters.
Depending on compatibility, supported bosses can cause changes to the surrounding atmosphere and receive additional cinematic effects.
One of these effects is a bright white circular glow behind supported bosses, alongside special sky colors and atmospheric changes.
These effects are particularly intended for Minecraft: Story Mode and Wither Storm-themed gameplay.
IMPORTANT: Not So MCSM does NOT contain the Wither Storm or any other custom boss.
Boss entities must come from separate mods.
REQUIREMENTS
REQUIRED:
• Minecraft: Java Edition • Fabric • Iris Shaders • A supported Minecraft version • A GPU capable of running Iris shader packs
RECOMMENDED:
• Sodium — recommended for improved performance.
OPTIONAL:
• Bridge — provides additional supported integration/features. The basic shader can still be used without Bridge.
Exact requirements and supported versions may change between releases.
RECOMMENDED WITHER STORM MOD DARKENED STORM V4
For the intended Wither Storm experience, Darkened Storm V4 is the recommended mod to eventually pair with Not So MCSM.
IMPORTANT: Darkened Storm V4 has not officially released yet.
Please wait for the official V4 release before trying this recommended setup.
Once V4 releases and compatibility can be properly tested, it is expected to provide one of the best experiences with Not So MCSM.
Darkened Storm V4 would provide the actual Wither Storm gameplay while Not So MCSM provides the MCSM-inspired lighting, skies, atmosphere, colors, and boss visuals.
Other Wither Storm mods may work as well, but compatibility with every mod is not guaranteed.

Not So MCSM was developed with generative AI assistance.
AI tools, including Claude, were used to assist with writing and modifying parts of the shader's code.
AI assistance was involved with parts of the project including:

⚠️ WORK IN PROGRESS
Not So MCSM is still a work in progress.
Some effects may be inaccurate, unfinished, buggy, or behave differently depending on your Minecraft version, GPU, Iris version, installed mods, resource packs, or graphics settings.
Boss effects can depend on how another mod renders its entities, meaning they may not work with every mod.
Future versions may improve MCSM accuracy, performance, lighting, skies, boss compatibility, effects, and overall visual quality.
