Description

Three Hour Tour

You wake on a raft in open water. There is a lever on it. Pull it and the raft becomes a real physics vessel, bound to you from then on — your home, your workshop, your farm, and the thing all of your progress is attached to.

There is no land at the origin. The seabed is 63 blocks down and the horizon is empty in every direction. Islands exist out there, a median one about 27 blocks across, but you visit them for materials and sail away. They are never a second base.

What makes it different

The ship is the game. Vessels float, move under power, and carry everything on them. You do not build a base and take a boat to it — you build the boat, and then you make the boat better.

Progress is bought, not levelled into. Research is paid for in six kinds of research pack, each earned a different way, so no single activity buys the whole tree:

  • Trawl — the sea scoop while sailing, and line fishing
  • Foundry — the Create chain's own output, alloys and ingots
  • Farm — growing and cooking
  • Abyssal — hand-diving, which cannot be automated at all
  • Arcane — spellcraft and enchanting
  • Husbandry — animals, breeding, cheese and leather

Research gates placement, not just recipes. A block you have not researched cannot be placed at all. The tree therefore describes what your ship is allowed to be, and a research terminal on deck shows the pinned node and its progress on its own face, so you can read your next goal without opening a menu.

Thirst never comes back from food. Cooking buys you time; it does not buy you water. Being surrounded by the wrong kind of water is a standing problem, and solving it properly is early progression rather than a footnote.

You get a dog. He is in the starter kit, along with his bed.

Playing with other people

Vessels can sail to each other and teammates can meet at sea, so a server works the way you would hope: everyone has their own ship, and visiting somebody is an actual voyage.

Before you start

Give it around 8 GB of RAM. It is a 259-mod pack built on NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1, and it wants a machine that can carry that.

The pack's own companion mod ships inside it — there is nothing to install by hand.

Source and licence

The pack's configuration, datapacks, scripts and companion mod are MIT licensed and public: github.com/Mousebeast/three-hour-tour. That covers our work only. The mods this pack depends on are their authors' work, downloaded by the launcher rather than distributed by us, and each carries its own terms.
