There Was No Moon
There Was No Moon, created by the developer of Forsaken Wilds, is a horror modpack featuring no_moon.jar, designed to give you moments of beauty like cute animals and nature... while giving you a sense of feeling that something isn't quite right. You'd be right.
As night falls, you'll notice the moon isn't quite right. Eventually, it breaks. That's when everything starts to unravel.
Random events begin to spiral out of control. A corrupted entity, hidden within the shattered remains of the moon, now rules The Core. More entities begin to watch you; some will kill you. Others might throw you out. And maybe... one of them can help you.
You can ask it questions. It might even answer and guide you. But can you trust it? Test your sanity and survival skills to conquer the boss who rules The Core.
Can you survive long enough to uncover the truth and secrets? Or will you be consumed, just another bug trapped in the .jar file?
Face the horrors. Find the source. Beat the boss. Reveal the hidden secrets that are hidden.
QUICK TIPS & NOTES
To access/remove resource packs for this modpack, you'll need to access the modpack folder. Go to the three dots next to the Play button > Open Folder > Config > Openloader > resources, to do so.
When updating this modpack, check resource packs to ensure the ones you've applied aren't automatically disabled.
There will be a README in the modpack folder to help you add JVM Arguments to give you better RAM and performance issues, if encountered.
Main Features
A World Fractures by Absence
The moon is gone. Its vanishing wasn't a single event; it was a process, and the world is still unraveling.
Haunted Exploration
Travel through abandoned settlements, villages, structures, and anomalies.
Psychological Horror Elements
You're not just fighting to survive, you're fighting to stay sane.
Relentless and Reactive Threats
Enemies don't just spawn, they hunt. Some entities can learn from your movements, coordinate in the dark, and wait until your eyes blink. You aren't just being watched, you're being studied.
Lore-Soaked World
Fragments of the truth are scattered across the world. Piece together what happened, or make peace with never knowing.
Known Issues & Warnings
Despite its unsettling calm, There Was No Moon hides more than just lore. Here's what to expect (and beware of):
Performance Drops
FPS may occasionally dip, especially in dense areas or during heavy action. This can often be improved with optimized JVM arguments or performance mods included in the folder, you'll have to find the README for instructions.
Entity-Based Game Ejections
Some entities are aggressively coded, and I mean that literally. They might:
- Kick you out of your world
- Cause game crashes under specific conditions
- On extremely rare occasions, even corrupt or lock your world (as the mod says, ONLY happens in VERY specific actions)
Most of these behaviors can be tweaked in the config files or in-game.
World Instability with Certain Structures
A few worldgen/structural features can sometimes cause lag spikes or chunk errors, often fixable with a restart or pre-generation.
Multiplayer Not Recommended
While the mod no_moon.jar supports multiplayer on its own, multiplayer isn't fully supported due to some mods only supporting solo play. While technically you can, expect things not to work properly for some people.
PC Hardware Requirements
This modpack isn't as large as my Forsaken Wilds modpack, but it's still recommended to play if your hardware meets these specs, especially with shaders too. If you have an AMD GPU, some shaders may not work. Just keep the drivers updated! (Note: The selected hardware may underperform or overperform depending on the condition and age. This is estimated!)
Minimum Requirements (720p - Low/No Shaders)
Suitable for basic gameplay without shaders, on reduced settings, and with some stutter expected in heavier areas.
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 / AMD Ryzen 3 2100
RAM: 12GB DDR4 (Dedicated to Minecraft: 6GB minimum, default to 8GB)
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 960 / AMD Radeon RX 560
Storage: 256GB SSD (No HDD is recommended, unless you're VERY patient. Good for you!)
Recommended Specs (1080p - Medium Settings / Basic Shader Support)
Great balance of visuals and performance. Allow shaders on low/medium settings.
CPU: Intel Core i5-8600K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600
RAM: 16 GB
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1660 / AMD RX 580 or better
Storage: 512GB SSD (NVMe SSD for the best experience)
Dev-Tested
This setup was used to build and test the modpack. Stable at high settings with room for background tasks, medium shader settings, and mostly smooth exploration.
CPU: Intel Core i5-13600KF
RAM: 32 GB DDR4 (8GB allocated to Minecraft)
GPU: MSI GAMING X GeForce RTX 4060 Ti (16GB VRAM)
Storage: WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB NVMe SSD

Feedback & Suggestions
I'll appreciate your feedback! Whether you've found a bug, got a spooky idea, or just want to share how your adventure is going, I'm all ears.
Bug reports: Let me know about crashes, glitches, or weird mod behavior. Some mods cause intentional crashes for "protection" too, so keep that in mind.
Suggestions: Found a mod that fits the scene? Want more balance, more scares, or more realism? Hit me up! Though I won't be adding further mods that add more difficulty, since it's already hard for some people the way it is.
You can leave feedback in the Comments section on the modpack page.
Discord server now available! While it is made for my other modpack, a separate category for this modpack will arrive soon!
This modpack is a living project, and your voice can help shape it. Don’t be shy. The world may be corrupted… but you're not.
You came here for answers. But this place only gives questions, and someone may have answers.
Who is Hexdar?
Behind the strange ruins, haunted entities, and overgrown world of Forsaken Wilds stands the modpack's creator: Hexdar: Modder, explorer, and wielder of both music and mystery.
As a musician, Hexdar is also known across other platforms as IcyWinter. Hexdar was born from a shift in creative direction, a name that came naturally, like a voice from the void in my mind.
It started with the word "Hex", representing curses, code, and a touch of chaos. But with that name already tied to another digital character from Friday Night Funkin', a new suffix was added: "dar." No defined meaning. No clear origin. Just mysterious… and now, identity.
Today, Hexdar is more than just a name... it's a persona. (some say.)
Hexdar is a modpack developer and curator who crafts immersive experiences with deep atmosphere, unsettling tension, and an eye for detail. Someone who's spent years shaping worlds through command blocks, using mods, music, and storytelling, with a soft spot for the eerie and the unknown ever since childhood.
Also… an Android enjoyer.
More modpacks are in the works. More wilds to explore. More mysteries to be uncovered.
The only question is, will you make it out of them?
