SoulRise

You are not special. Pick a class, earn every upgrade, and fight through a story-driven RPG modpack where bosses gate the path.

You are not special.

SoulRise is a story-driven action RPG modpack built around one simple idea:

Power should be earned.

You begin as nobody.

Choose a class. Learn how it fights. Hunt creatures stronger than you. Earn permanent upgrades through real milestones instead of grinding arbitrary levels, and slowly become someone the world has a reason to remember.

SoulRise is not about being declared the chosen one five minutes after spawning.

It is about becoming powerful enough that the title would eventually make sense.

Quick Facts

Minecraft 1.20.1 · Forge 47.4.10 · Java 17 · 6 GB RAM recommended · English · Solo & Co-op

SoulRise is distributed as a proper CurseForge modpack. Required mods, including the custom SoulRise Core and SoulRise Dialogues, are downloaded automatically through CurseForge.

Getting Started

Your first few minutes are deliberately simple.

1. Choose your difficulty

You will be asked to select the combat baseline for the world.

Normal is the recommended first-playthrough experience.

You can change difficulty later.

2. Read your books

You receive two important books:

Current Journey
Your practical progression guide. Open this when you want to know what you should be doing next.

Before the Songs
The historical journal of SoulRise. This contains deeper lore, records and stories for players who want to understand the world rather than simply move through it.

Lost copies can be crafted again.

3. Choose a class

Press N to open the SoulRise Skill Tree.

Choose one of five classes and complete the short class introduction.

Your first class milestone awards your first permanent class-tree point.

From there, follow Current Journey, explore freely, or do both.

Recommended Controls

SoulRise combines several combat and utility systems, so spending one minute on controls at the beginning can save considerably more time wondering why the cool button does nothing.

Important defaults

  • N — SoulRise Skill Tree
  • M — Xaero's World Map
  • Middle Mouse Button / MMB — KeyFlow action wheel
  • Z — SoulRise Class Ability
  • Left Alt — Combat Roll
  • V — Iron's Spells cast
  • R — Iron's Spells spell wheel

The KeyFlow action wheel is fully customizable and comes with useful SoulRise actions already prepared, including access to your class ability, backpack, skill tree, quests and world map.

Open:

Options → Controls

at least once and adjust anything that feels uncomfortable.

With a large modpack, some mods may share default keys. If an action appears doubled or behaves unexpectedly, check the Controls menu and rebind it to whatever feels natural.

SoulRise does not expect you to treat the default layout as sacred.

Five Classes. Five Different Combat Loops.

Classes in SoulRise are not simple bundles of passive stat bonuses.

Each one has its own combat mechanics and a custom skill tree that lets the build develop in different directions.

Swordsman

Aggressive melee built around Perfect Parry, counters and precise timing.

Read attacks correctly, turn defense into offense and stay close enough to punish mistakes.

Guardian

A durable frontline fighter built around absorbing pressure, surviving dangerous exchanges and turning enemy aggression against them.

Assassin

A mobile burst class centered around Hidden, powerful opening attacks and choosing the right moment to strike.

Marksman

A ranged specialist focused on movement, positioning, weapon play and exploiting weak points rather than simply standing at maximum distance.

Mage

A flexible but fragile spellcaster with magical defenses, spell utility and powerful self-reinforcement abilities.

Your class becomes stronger because of the decisions you make inside its tree, not because the game quietly added another 5% to everything.

Bosses Are Progression

This is one of the core ideas behind SoulRise.

Bosses are not decorative landmarks. They are part of character progression.

Permanent class-tree points are earned through meaningful milestones, important encounters and major victories.

That means defeating a dangerous enemy matters for more than whatever happens to be inside its loot table.

Your victories unlock more ways to build your class.

You are not expected to spend hours farming arbitrary experience until a number becomes large enough to grant permission to continue playing.

Fight stronger enemies.
Push farther into the world.
Earn new options.
Build around them.

Explore With a Purpose

SoulRise expands the Overworld, but exploration exists to support the adventure rather than simply make the mod list longer.

You may be tracking the Wrought Chamber, following leads toward a Frostmaw, investigating the Dark Tower, searching for Umvuthi, or simply finding something dangerous far earlier than you were supposed to.

Guidance comes through a mixture of:

  • journal entries
  • objectives
  • rumors and dialogue
  • compasses
  • map leads
  • environmental discovery

The game will point you toward important paths without turning the world into a sequence of teleport markers.

You can follow the intended route, wander away from it, or attempt an encounter you are very obviously not ready for.

Story & Dialogue

Episode One tells its story through quests, journals, discoveries and reactive dialogue.

Villagers can talk about important people, dangerous places and events that have actually happened.

Dialogue reacts to what you have done.

Defeat something important and settlements with a reason to care can respond to it instead of every villager in the world magically receiving the same update at the same moment.

The two books serve different purposes:

Current Journey

Keeps the playable route understandable.

Before the Songs

Explains what happened before you arrived.

You can read every piece of lore or focus almost entirely on combat and exploration. The main route works either way.

Difficulty

SoulRise has four combat presets.

They change the combat baseline without changing the campaign itself.

Easy

  • Enemy Health: 100%
  • Enemy Damage: 100%

A lighter combat experience for players primarily interested in exploration and story.

Normal

  • Enemy Health: 125%
  • Enemy Damage: 125%

Recommended.
This is the intended first-playthrough balance.

High

  • Enemy Health: 150%
  • Enemy Damage: 150%

For players already comfortable with the combat systems and class builds.

Extreme

  • Enemy Health: 200%
  • Enemy Damage: 175%

For optimized builds and people who looked at High and felt personally insulted.

Difficulty can be changed later from the pause menu.

Solo or Co-op

SoulRise is designed for both solo play and multiplayer.

Core progression, class growth and major milestones are built to remain functional with multiple players rather than treating multiplayer as an accidental consequence of Minecraft having servers.

Different classes also naturally fill different combat roles, making co-op parties substantially different from five people playing the same character with different skins.

Solo players do not need a party to complete the campaign.

Built as a Modpack, Not Just a Mod List

A large mod list does not automatically create an RPG.

SoulRise includes two mods written specifically for this pack:

SoulRise Core

Handles custom class combat, progression systems, interfaces, difficulty mechanics and pack-specific gameplay integration.

SoulRise Dialogues

Provides the custom dialogue runtime used by SoulRise settlements and characters.

These sit alongside custom quests, skill trees, balancing, progression rules, journals, integrations and configuration designed specifically around this campaign.

The goal is not to place more than a hundred unrelated projects beside one another and call the result a game.

The goal is to make those projects feel like parts of the same RPG.

Episode One: Before the Songs

The first public release of SoulRise focuses on the Overworld and the beginning of its story.

Expected playtime

  • approximately 8–12 hours for the main route
  • approximately 15–20 hours with broader exploration, optional content and build experimentation

Episode One contains a complete playable progression route rather than an unfinished demonstration of systems intended for later.

Nether and End progression are outside the scope of Episode One.

The current release is focused on making its Overworld campaign worth finishing first.

Installation

The recommended installation method is the CurseForge App.

  1. Install SoulRise through CurseForge.
  2. Allocate around 6 GB of RAM to Minecraft.
  3. Launch the pack.
  4. Create a world.
  5. Choose Normal difficulty if you want the intended balance.
  6. Follow the in-game onboarding.

All required mod JARs are resolved through CurseForge automatically.

Do not manually add random performance, combat or world-generation mods before your first launch. Modpacks are complicated enough before humans begin performing elective surgery on them.

Performance

SoulRise contains a large world-generation and RPG stack, but the pack also includes a tuned optimization setup intended to keep exploration and combat practical on modern systems.

World generation is naturally heavier than vanilla Minecraft.

For the intended experience:

  • use the included configurations first
  • allocate approximately 6 GB RAM
  • allow initial world generation time when entering completely new terrain
  • reduce render distance before removing mods if performance is poor

Credits

SoulRise is built on the work of many Minecraft mod developers whose projects make this pack possible.

All third-party mods remain the property of their respective authors and are distributed through CurseForge dependencies, not redistributed inside the SoulRise archive.

SoulRise-specific code and systems are provided through:

  • SoulRise Core
  • SoulRise Dialogues

A complete installed mod list is available through CurseForge.

Huge thanks to every developer whose work forms part of the pack.

Current Release Scope

Episode One is playable from beginning to end.

This is an Alpha release, which means balance, interface polish and individual encounters may continue to improve based on real player feedback.

The core campaign, class systems and progression route are present and intended to be played normally.

If something breaks, behaves strangely or feels wildly out of place, feedback is useful. Specific reports with screenshots and logs are significantly more useful than the timeless classic:

“it broke pls fix”

You are not special.

You do not begin with a prophecy.

You do not begin with legendary equipment.

You do not begin because the world was waiting for you.

You begin as nobody.

Will you dare to try?
