Introduction/Backstory of Update

     The full version of 0.15 is here! This has been an update approxamately 6 months in the making. The main purpose for this update is to replace all of the lootbag rewards in both questbooks with reward bags from the hqm mod. A very long time ago, in the earliest stages of Questing Mayhem, these reward bags were used but broke and I could not figure out how to get them to work again. Well, near the beginning of 2019 I discovered how to use the reward bags properly this time and customize them. So I took it upon myself to go through every quest and replace any lootbags with reward bags, or some other reward.

I also used this as an excuse to improve many quests across the board in Questing Mayhem. I read through 99% of the quest descriptions and made changes where I thought they were necessary. That also includes quest titles. I also made a point to improve rewards, and not just replace lootbags with reward bags. The randomness of reward bags, lootbags, chance cubes and whatnot are fun and I still take advantage of them (well, not the lootbags anymore), but it could feel a bit cheap if you were just given a completely random reward for all 900+ quests in the pack at this point. So, many quests now have more unique rewards. Some rewards are specifically tailored to the quest they’re attatched to. For instance, if there is a quest to get let’s say 64 iron chests (which there is not), I may give a choice reward where you could get either some iron blocks to compensate for the amount of iron you spent on that quest, or some more iron chests. Essentially, a lot of the quests have consistent themes regarding the task at hand and its reward.

     But you already knew all of that. I’ve been releasing essentially pre-releases of 0.15 like pre15.1, 0.15.2pre, 0.15.3pre, etcetera. These updates, while changed a fair amount, were really my way of experimenting with the method of updating more frequently and having less per update. 0.15 was still the big update that revamped the reward system, but it was somewhat released in parts. Another reason for doing this was that a majority of people, from my observations from people doing Questing Mayhem Youtube & Twitch series, as well as discussion in the discord, most people are somewhere between just starting the first questbook, or about 65% done with the first questbook. Again, that’s a big generlization. There may be tons of people who are completing the 2nd questbook and I just don’t know it. Regardless, I thought “Well, if a lot of people are still on the relatively early stages of the pack, and I have content that will enhance that part of the pack, what’s holding me back from releasing that update so people can some new features sooner?” The answer to that question is nothing (except time it takes to make & release an update).

     Okay, so what’s new with 0.15 Full? This is probably the largest update in Questing Mayhem’s history (and there wasn’t even a questline added!). The changelog for this version (the one where I list out all of the changes, not the paragraph blog type thing) is by far the longest there has ever been. To give you some numbers to get excited about, 186 changes have been made to the questbooks. That is to say, some of those changes are for the 1st questbook, the hqm questbook, and other changes are for the 2nd questbook, the better questing questbook. Also, 256 recipes have been changed since 0.15.4.2pre (the previous update). Read that sentence again. Yes, you read that right, and no that number is not a typo. What recipes have been changed? Well, all the augments for thermal machines, all of the energy cells (which include EnderIO capacitor banks & Immersive Engineering capacitors), and… well… the actual changelog which includes all the recipe changes is down at the bottom of all of these paragraphs. Look there.

Moving on, for clarity sake, I want to reiterate that virtually all of the quests in the pack have been looked at by me and I have fixed countless typos and changed countless rewards. This goes for every single questline.    The lootbags mod has been removed because its sole purpose was to give bags with random loot in them for quest rewards. But now reward bags are a thing, so their purpose was lost. You’re welcome for the reduced inventory spam.

     As a final note, I have added the FTB Utilities mod into the pack. Those familiar with the mod will know this adds a GUI-like chunk loading system. Well, I disabled that. You’re stuck with the expensive railcraft chunkloaders still. The necessity of FTB Utilities was made aware to me due to the fact that the official Questing Mayhem server has been running for about 3 weeks now, and there have already been problems with grieving and stealing. I hope the chunk claiming system (different from the chunk loading system) helps discourage grieving and stealing not just on the official server, but also on any other server.

     Man, wasn’t that a great segway? A development that happened inbetween updates 0.15.4.2pre and 0.15 Full is that Apex Minecraft Hosting reached out to me and asked me if I would be interested in a free server to run Questing Mayhem on? I, of course, said yes. As a bit of a ramble, Apex’s customer support was truly amazing. I had never set up a Minecraft server before, and they handled like… all of the setup for me which was amazing. I just had to provide the server files for the modpack (which were in fact broken and Apex fixed themselves) and they set it all up. Within an hour, the server was ready to log onto.

While the server was completely public for a while, due to several incidents of grievers on the server, the discord community voted to implement a whitelist on the server. To join the whitelist, first join the discord server and then click the link in the #whitelist channel. This will take you to a google forum. Fill out the forum and soon enough you will be whitelisted to the server. I’ve been working on Questing Mayhem 0.15 for 6 months now, so where do I go from here? Well, I’m excited to begin work on 0.16. After half a year of revising quests, it’s going to be really nice to start making quests again and adding more content to the pack. And trust me, there is going to be A LOT of new content for 0.16 (quests included). ;)
