Welcome to Onward! Hardcore Legacy. This is a medium-sized modpack intended for small-group multiplayer servers. Onward uses Forge 1.12.2, and features an impressive array of mods to enhance and expand the Minecraft survival experience. Below are the themes that this modpack focuses on, as well as the credits for the mods used.
Onward's main priority is to provide a more realistic and grounded survival experience. Gritty mechanics such as temperature and thirst have been introduced, opening the door to a more intense and involved playthrough. Alongside these new features, many of Minecraft's core survival systems have been fleshed out; fishing, farming, mining, and combat have all been touched on. These survival mods have been combined with mods such as Dynamic Surroundings, Sound Filters, and Dynamic Trees, all of which aid in providing an immersive experience.
Another important aspect of Onward is the challenge it provides. This modpack was intended to be difficult and slow. While a lot of the difficulty comes from the new survival elements, there are a number of new threats to watch out for. There are dungeons with difficult bosses, and the night is filled with a litany of hostile mobs. Mysterious dimensions await , many of them being dangerous places for under-equipped travelers. It will be a fair challenge to explore the new evils this modpack provides.
All of Onward's mods work well together. Many of the mods provided have compatibility built-in or added on, allowing new systems to work seamlessly with each other. The various beverages from HarvestCraft work with the Tough as Nails thirst mechanic. The Comforts sleeping bag can provide warmth in a cold environment. Dynamic Trees appears beautifully in modded biomes and dimensions. Every mod included has had its configuration tweaked in order to better suite the pack, and no stone has been left unturned in attempting to provide a fluid experience.
There have been many performance mods included in Onward. This means that things such as Optifine may not work as expected with the modpack. Mods such as FoamFix, Phosphor, VanillaFix, and Nothirium have been included to ensure that the pack plays smoothly on almost any system. Default settings and keybinds do ship with the modpack, meaning the little to no maintenance needs to be done in the options menu. Onward aims to be a hardcore multiplayer survival modpack; it is meant to be played in Hardcore mode, or on the hard difficulty in multiplayer. While it grows and evolves, this core theme will always remain a priority.
This modpack was playtested by sh4ggy977 and IslaMemorial. Huge thanks to those two for speeding up the process of creating Onward.
