FRONTIER FORGE
Hunt what the frontier fears. Forge what it leaves behind.
Frontier Forge is a 342 mod NeoForge 1.21.1 modpack built around a monster-hunting spine. Every machine you build, every spellbook you write and every storage network you wire together is ultimately paid for in carved monster parts.
This pack focuses on expanded endgame progression, endless exploration, and an original storyline of 839 hand-written quests built with FTB Quests. It integrates a carefully selected list of mods to improve world generation, combat mechanics, and magic systems, and ties them together with custom recipes so the mods interlock instead of sitting side by side.
THE HUNT
At the centre of the pack is Wild Hunt, an original mod built for Frontier Forge.
Take a contract from the Hunter's Guild. Follow scorched tracks across the frontier until the trail resolves into a lair. Trap the monster, tranquilise it, and bring it down. Then carve the carcass before it crumbles, and take what you carved to the Smithy.
Five apex monsters — Ashfang, Skarn, Fulgur Skarn, Vorrath and Maegroth — each with their own weapons, armour sets and materials. Weapons have real mechanics: Dual Blades run a three-hit rhythm into Demon Mode and Blade Dance, the Heavy Bowgun takes five ammunition types, and the Insect Glaive fights alongside a Kinsect.
The hunt gates the rest of the pack. Ashfang's Ember Core is required to build Mekanism's Metallurgic Infuser. The Fulgur Crystal is required for the Applied Energistics Inscriber. Maegroth's Sovereign Crystal is required for the Ars Nouveau Imbuement Chamber. You cannot automate your way past hunting. You have to go and win.
WORLD GENERATION
Terralith and Tectonic rebuild the overworld. Oh The Biomes We've Gone adds hundreds more. BetterNether and BetterEnd rebuild the other two dimensions completely.
Structures are overhauled throughout: the full YUNG's suite (dungeons, mineshafts, strongholds, nether fortresses, desert and jungle temples, ocean monuments, witch huts, cave biomes), When Dungeons Arise, Dungeons and Taverns, ChoiceTheorem's Overhauled Village, Towns and Towers, Structory, Integrated Dungeons and Structures, Formations and more.
Five dimensions beyond the overworld: The Aether with Deep Aether, the Twilight Forest, the Undergarden, and the Otherside from Deeper and Darker.
COMBAT
Better Combat replaces flat swinging with weapons that have reach, weight and timing. Combat Roll gives you a dodge. Apotheosis rewrites loot entirely with affixes, sockets, gems and a reforging loop that will keep you at the table for hours.
The bestiary is enormous: L_Ender's Cataclysm, Bosses of Mass Destruction, Ice and Fire: Dragons, Naturalist, Mowzie's Mobs, Mutant Monsters, Legendary Monsters, Born in Chaos, Illager Invasion, Creeper and Enderman Overhaul, and the apex hunts from Wild Hunt itself.
Gear scales to match: Simply Swords, Too Many Bows, Epic Knights, Artifacts, Relics and Iron's Jewelry.
MAGIC
Three complete systems, each working differently.
Ars Nouveau lets you write your own spells from glyphs — form, effect, modifier — and extends through Ars Elemental, Ars Additions, Ars Creo and Ars Controle.
Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks gives you eight schools to specialise in, with scrolls, inks, runes and upgrade orbs.
Occultism takes the opposite approach: you do not cast, you bind. Draw the circle, burn the materials, and negotiate with what answers.
Plus Mystical Agriculture for growing your resources, and Apotheosis enchanting on top of all of it.
INDUSTRY
The tech side is intact and deep. Create with Steam 'n Rails, Enchantment Industry and Crafts & Additions. Immersive Engineering, Mekanism, Powah, Industrial Foregoing, Ender IO, Extreme Reactors.
Storage runs from Sophisticated Backpacks through Storage Drawers and Tom's Storage to full Applied Energistics 2 with autocrafting, spatial storage and a quantum bridge — or Refined Storage if you prefer it.
THE QUEST BOOK
A written storyline, not a checklist. 38 chapters, 839 quests, organised into six sections: The Frontier, The Hunter's Guild, The Wild, The Forge, Arcana and Ascension.
Every quest has real writing behind it — what the mod does, why it matters, and what to do next. Progression is flexible, so the book guides you without locking you out of anything.
BEFORE YOU START
- Allocate 8GB of RAM. This is a large pack and it will not run well on less.
- First load takes a few minutes. So does creating your first world, because the world generation here is doing a great deal of work. Later loads are much faster.
- Shaders are included via Iris with Complementary ready to enable.
Frontier Forge is built around Wild Hunt by Rulture. Every other mod in this pack belongs to someone who made it and shared it for free — go and tell them it was good.
MODS NOT HOSTED ON CURSEFORGE
One mod in this pack is bundled directly, from the Approved Non-CurseForge Mods list:
- Spelunkery by Silversmith Mods — LGPL-3.0-only
Wild Hunt is my own mod and is bundled with the pack. Everything else is pulled from CurseForge through the manifest.
