Welcome to the Wasteland Vault-dwellers!

This project was made to create Bethesda's Fallout universe in Minecraft v1.16.5.
It 's in early development and at the moment only available in early access.

The goal of this project:
The best selected content from many different modpacks, resourepacks and fitting structures, combined with a handcrafted map to explore.

New interesting characters made with the custom NPC mod. All with lore friendly skins and dialogs.
The dialogs will be voiced with text to speech A.I. tools. A faction system and companions are also planned.

New story Quests, boss fights, lockpicking, side missions, S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Perk selection and other RPG elements.
The story will not be a remake of an existing fallout game, but a new lore friendly questline,
with the tools I've learned from my other MC projects over the years.

Play the campaign, or go off-road for your own Wasteland adventure.

(I would recommend install it it with CurseForge, it's more easy as the Java launcher installation.)

1. Open the CurseForge App and search for: "Fallout - A Minecraft Story", or use the link above. This will install the game instance and add all the mods and some packs.
Now go to your CF settings and apply for Minecraft at least 6 GB (more are even better) of RAM!

Start the Modpack, it will make a new 1.16.5 Forge version for you. When you are in the main menu, the mods are installed.
- > Close it again.

2. Download the Project Pack (Map inside) from the link at discord and open the zipped archive.

3. To install the required Resourepacks, copy them from the Map Pack folder and place the packs inside the Resourepacks folder of the CurseForge instance.

To find that: Click on the 3 dots at the CurseForge instance and select "open folder" , it will navigate you to: "User\curseforge\minecraft\Instances\Fallout - A Minecraft Story"
(Check screenshot in project pack for load order).

Restart your game after activating the Resourcepacks!

Note: Becasue Optifine cant be on CF, drag the mod "Optifine" from the map pack inside the mods folder of your CurseForge instance. The Fallout mods need it for creature skins and it also allows shaderpack support.

4. Put the map "Fallout World(Vers.Nr)" Folder inside the "saves" folder of that instance.

--> Now you are finish and ready to play! ☢
(Game starting can take some time and may look like its frozen even if its not)

►Before start playing:

- Change your "Keybindings / Controls". All the mods have different functions and the keys overwrite each other.
There are many which you don't need. You can also copy my Options and Config files (Already done when you installed with CF).

- When you hear the custom music in the menu the "Fallout Soundpack" is working fine.
It's also be used for voiced dialogs, sounds effects and holo disk songs. Check Readme file of Soundpack for more info.

- Pink Wool spots will mark sound-triggers during the development. Once the map leaves early access state, they will be gone.

- The game can take a while to start and even looks frozen but its not, just wait so the mods can be installed.

- On first map start you will see a spawning info window, its from one of the mods and I can't remove it, but edited the text so it says " press NO", so you can spawn in my Vault not the one from the mod "wastelands".

The mod "Locks", makes most of the spawned chest with loot found in the buildings, locked. If you don't have lockpicks or a key, check out Just Enough Items overlay on how to craft them.

- You can modify your Minimap with the menu from Xaero, or change your HUD completely to your preference with the mod "RPG Hud".

- The "Pacman Resourcepack" fixes a bunch of issues with the mod pack, check out the readme file for more information. Its also needed for the NPC skins.

- Shaderpack use would only be recommended if you are outside of the Vault. Inside the NPCs have black eyes with shaderpack and you will have bad performance.

- You can play music in game with the added mod 'Music Player' here you can copy the YouTube link of your favorite Fallout radio. You can also earn bottle caps by questing and buy in game music discs to play at the jukebox. Thanks to my Soundpack, you can also hear some songs over special npcs like the TV.

- Change your character model or skin with MorePlayerModels mod. Equip cosmetic armor.

- The performance is usally good, but the Vault has one bugged spot in the middle, I could not fix it yet it will be worked on.

Q: Why Fallout? And what can we expect?
A: I'm a huge fan of the Fallout games and I wanted to start a smaller project next to the LOTR one for some time now. I have learned much working on this project, knowledge that I can now use on the Fallout map.
Fallout is all about: exploring, fighting, looting, crafting.. in my eyes a perfect scenario for the game. I can already see people rebuilding the wasteland cities.
To make this idea possible, I took a few weeks of research and trying different Fallout themed modpacks. In the end I merged the best mods and resourepack combinations to create the base layout for this new exiting project.
And thanks to the Minecraft version 1.16.5, we can have newer mods, features and better performance.
When it comes to the NPCs and Quest's, I have more freedom experimenting, as I dont want to recreate one of the existing Fallout games, but make a new game which will fit in the lore.
At the moment it's only available in early access.

Q: What does early access mean for the project?
A: That you can download and play the project, even it is not in the final state. My goal for version 1.0 would be to have at least the finished main story missions, with a few side missions, working dialogs and all of that in a world to explore with different biomes, structures and locations.

Q: What can we expect from the map?
A: The map currently has 2 continent, one is called the Tutorial Island at the moment, and the other beeing the Main island (placeholder names). Designed with the realistic environment generator mod "TerraForged", with some interesting biomes. Unfortunately the "Lost Cities" generation mod doesn't work with TerraForged and the cities are clipped under the generated land. To fix this, I will generate a few epic city ruins in normal maps and import the schematics like I did in the LOTR map. To make the world more exiting to explore and to give it a few POI (points of interests). Mixed with a few selected modern build structures (ruined) like you saw in the Trailer with the ship wreck.

Q: What are the plans for the NPCs and Quests?
A: Similar to the LOTR project, there will be main quests, side quests and followers. There are also factions planned like The Brotherhood of Steel, Enclave, Survivor Settlements, Raiders and more.
You will start out in a vault and have to do a few tutorial quests to learn the new mod mechanics. After this a motivation will drive you out of the vault into the unknown of the wastelands. It will definitely have inspirations from the Fallout games but not 1 to 1 copies. I have learned a lot about quest design and have some interesting ideas in mind. Most inspiration would come from: Fallout 3 and New Vegas, as these are my favorite games of that genre. I also played a lot Fallout 4 and also Fallout 76. So they will have an influence too. I never played the first two titles, though. Until the first Quest path is finish, you can find bounty bords in generated settler towns. Here you can do small tasks, similar to the LOTR mod quests where you have to find a few resources.
Planned are also trader NPCs, boss fights and role play game aspects like: picking of a few "perks" at the start which will unlock different answer choices. To simulate the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system from the games.

------------------------NPC Skin Issue------------------------
Q: All Quest NPCs have pink/black error skin.
A: Make sure to have both of my Fallout Resourcepacks (Pacman Pack / Sound Pack) activated on the top of your load order. If they are still pink, restart the game to fix it.

------------------------Server Play------------------------
Q: Can I play this modpack/Map on a server with friends.
A: Yes! But as there is no customnpc+ mod and only the older version, you can't make a quest group. Make sure everyone reaches the objectives for themselves like in classic WoW. That means you also could end up waiting a few minutes until boss fights will respawn.

------------------------Restart the campaign------------------------
Q: How to restart the campaign?
A: Return to Vault-93 and go all the way back to the spawn area.
- Change your gamemode to creative and go to the last page of items, here you find the customnpc category. Take the customnpc wand tool and the Dad character should be visible again.
- Right click him and go to Global -> PlayerData -> Your Name -> click Delete. This will unread all dialogs and undo all quest progress. Here you could also remove only certain quest progression.
- Change to survival mode again and right click the Dad Npc. Instead of the first dialog he still has the perk reset dialog, because you still have the Perks.
- To undo the perks, select "Reset special perks" and click OK multiple times like shown on the screenshot. Now click: "select new perks again" but instead of choosing one, close the dialog window with ESC.
- When you next interact with Dad npc there will be the first dialog available and the game is successfully reset and ready for a fresh playthrough.

------------------------World Blackscreen------------------------
Q: The world does not load.
A: We don't have a clear solution to that but it seems to be a CurseForge issue only, so an installation over the normal MC launcher fixes that issue. Incase you still have trouble:
- Restart the launcher or even the complete PC to prevent a possible RAM overload.
- Share possible crashlogs with us.
- Make sure to follow the install tutorial step by step, that means starting the game before adding the map so the mods can be installed.
- Make sure you install optifine.
- Activate the project resourcepacks. Not only the CF packs, in the modpack are two packs as well that need to be added manually.
- Reset your graphic options incase its a wrong setting.
- Try to start with the required configs and without to see if that fixes it.
If it only works in the MC launcher but you are preferring the CF launcher, you can also try to copy everything over, sometimes it fixes the issue.
