What's new

## 0.1.0 — First public beta

The first public release of Escape the Heat.

### The planet
- A barren desert world: no ore anywhere, no water, and a sun that kills. Every metal comes out of a sieve, and every drop of water is something you make.
- You start inside the wreck of your shuttle. Three salvaged climate units keep one small cabin bearable — for now.
- Days 1–3 are quiet. After that, the planet gets more dangerous as you make progress, not as the days pass.
- Monsters now and then drop metal, gems or wood, but only now and then. The sieves are where your metal comes from.

### Progression
- Seven chapters, from the crash to the launch: Crash Site, Salvage, Waterworks, Power, Automation, Launch Prep and Escape.
- One click works a whole bank of sieves from Salvage onwards, and machines take over the sieving once you have power.
- The tech mods build on each other: Create parts go into Thermal machines, Thermal parts into Mekanism, Mekanism into Applied Energistics, and every one of them into the rocket.
- Power has to be earned: your first dynamo needs a Create press and an electron tube, and every other generator a precision mechanism.
- Heat is handled by machines you build, starting with the Hearth — and a portable cooler, if you are willing to take one of the wreck's climate units with you.
- The rocket takes you home to Earth. After that, `/home` works from any world, and waystones (which arrive with the rocket parts) link Earth and the desert planet both ways.

### Quests
- Around 120 quests, written for this pack, with small salvage crates as rewards and a pilot's log that fills in as you go.
- Quests that check a machine you've already built ask you to look at it, so you almost never have to take your base apart to finish a chapter. The two "bank" quests still ask you to hold the sieves or crucibles.
- A Welcome chapter covers the basics - heat, thirst, sieving, and where to look things up - and its "Found a Bug?" quest links to our Discord.
- Side quests along the way, including a small optional cooking branch with Farmer's Delight, and a couple of quiet ones waiting for you after the ending.

### Known issues
- The late chapters (Automation, Launch Prep and Escape) and the difficulty curve have had the least testing.
- Built for single player. It runs on a server, but the wreck and its supplies exist once per world, and the danger rises for everyone when anyone finishes a chapter.
- The game log shows some harmless errors at startup (Ex Compressum recipes for a mod that isn't installed, and a note that Embeddium is "tainted" by Oculus). You can ignore them.
