Embersong - Alpha 0.2.0
What's new
Embersong Alpha 0.2.0 — The World Expansion Update
Alpha 0.2.0 is the largest expansion to Embersong's foundation so far. This update focuses heavily on exploration, world generation, travel, performance, combat presentation and making the existing RPG systems feel like they belong inside a much larger high-fantasy world.
World Generation
The Overworld has received a major generation overhaul.
Added / integrated:
-
Tectonic as the main terrain foundation
-
Regions Unexplored for expanded biome variety
-
Geophilic for richer natural environments
-
Streams Reflowing for improved rivers and waterways
-
Lithostitched as part of the world-generation compatibility layer
-
Sparse Structures to reduce excessive structure clustering
Structure spacing has been adjusted so exploration should feel less like constantly running from one generated landmark into another.
Random Wild Waystones have also been disabled. Village Waystones and player-placed Waystones remain available, making fast travel something tied more naturally to settlements and player progression.
Mowzie's Mobs boss placement was also adjusted for compatibility with Embersong's taller terrain generation.
Nether & End
The other major dimensions have received their own generation upgrades:
-
Incendium now expands the Nether
-
Nullscape now expands the End
Both dimensions remain accessible normally in Alpha 0.2.0. We experimented with progression-based dimension locking during development but decided against introducing it for this release.
Ocean Travel
Ocean travel has been reworked.
Vanilla boats are now affected by Unseaworthy, making long-distance ocean travel increasingly dangerous.
Small Ships are exempt, making proper ships the intended method for serious sea exploration while normal boats remain practical for rivers and coastal travel.
Create
Create 6.0.10 joins Embersong as a major engineering and building expansion.
Create does not introduce another progression system. Embersong's existing Character Level and class progression remain the authority.
Create JEI compatibility has also been added.
Backpacks
The previous backpack experiments have been replaced by Sophisticated Backpacks, together with Sophisticated Core and Curios support.
Backpacks now use their native opening system rather than custom Embersong code.
Further upgrade-balance tuning may continue during Alpha, but Sophisticated Backpacks is now the intended long-term storage solution.
New Player Health HUD
Vanilla stacked hearts have been replaced with a custom Embersong health bar designed for RPG-style health scaling.
The new HUD includes:
-
Current / maximum HP display
-
Absorption overlay
-
Delayed damage trail
-
Poison and Wither visual states
-
Custom Embersong pixel-style health numbers
-
Custom heart icon and high-fantasy frame styling
The fixed-scale design prevents high-health characters from covering large portions of the screen with vanilla hearts.
Boss & Combat Balance
Several bosses received an initial multiplayer durability pass.
The goal is not simply to inflate health, but to ensure bosses survive long enough for their actual mechanics to matter against coordinated multiplayer builds.
Current Alpha benchmarks include significant durability and damage increases for:
-
Black Charro
-
Dead King
-
Sandworm
-
Yeti
-
Dragon
-
Knight
-
Kraken
These values remain Alpha balance numbers and will continue to be adjusted based on multiplayer testing.
HUD & Input Cleanup
Several overlapping UI and control problems have been cleaned up.
-
Kremains exclusively reserved for Embersong Progression -
Iris shader toggle/reload defaults no longer conflict with gameplay controls
-
Iris Shaderpack Selection remains available on
O -
Xaero's default New Waypoint binding no longer conflicts with backpack access
-
Mob Health Bars now render at a much shorter distance
-
Mob health information no longer renders through walls
Players can still manually change their own controls afterwards.
JEI / Player Information
The recipe and information layer received several improvements:
-
Just Enough Resources added
-
Create JEI integration added
-
Additional Embersong progression information added to important items
-
Quarantined progression-breaking items hidden from JEI
-
Ingredient summary and fluid lookup improvements
-
Obsolete backpack integration entries removed
Performance
The performance stack has been heavily revised during development.
The current foundation includes:
-
Sodium
-
Iris
-
ImmediatelyFast
-
BadOptimizations
-
ModernFix
-
FerriteCore
-
ServerCore
-
spark
-
Noisium Forked
Entity Culling was tested and removed after causing entities and containers to appear several seconds late.
Shaders remain supported, but they are off by default and no shader pack is bundled.
Progression & System Cleanup
Progression v2 has not been redesigned.
Character Levels, Build Levels, classes, class ranks, Skill Points, Masteries and the Embersong progression UI remain the established progression authority.
This update instead cleans up several external-system conflicts around them.
Notably:
-
Removed the obsolete legacy Pufferfish Skill Point rewrite script
-
Fixed repeated Pufferfish "new skill point" chat spam
-
Pufferfish remains temporarily only as the Character XP / Level backend
-
Embersong Skill Points continue to function independently
-
Existing spell access, Casting Rank and Fire Mastery systems remain intact
Named NPC Spawn Fix
MobZ's Katherine and Fiora are not intended to appear as normal random mobs.
Earlier KubeJS cancellation attempts could create broken ghost entities, so that system has been removed.
Their natural spawning is now handled through Mobs Are Gone, preventing them from appearing naturally, from spawners or from spawn eggs without interfering with their entity lifecycle.
General Technical Work
Alpha 0.2.0 also includes:
-
dependency compatibility updates
-
stale configuration cleanup
-
shader/keybind fixes
-
backpack integration cleanup
-
NPC spawn fixes
-
world-generation compatibility work
-
UI refinements
-
additional multiplayer testing groundwork
-
numerous internal fixes accumulated across the dev1–dev36 branch
Important
Because Alpha 0.2.0 contains major world-generation changes, new terrain is strongly recommended for the intended experience.
Existing chunks will not automatically regenerate into the new terrain system.
Embersong remains in Alpha, and boss balance, backpack upgrade balance and several advanced progression systems will continue evolving in future updates.
Welcome to the next stage of Embersong.
