Description

ChaosZProject isn't abandoned :]
V2.1 was developed back in Q3 2025 and hasn't received any major updates since. But no, that doesn't mean we've stopped working on the modpack xd.
We've shifted our development entirely towards V2.2 (planned for December 2026) and the much larger V3 overhaul.
We're addressing performance issues, fixing existing flaws, rebuilding major systems and developing almost all of our mods in house. The goal is to deliver something genuinely better rather than endlessly patching our crappy older release.
Still playing V2.1???? Join our Discord and we'll gladly help you out with crashes, performance problems or anything else you might run into :]]]]
Sorry for the inconvenience, but we'd rather take our time and deliver something we're actually proud of than rush releases for downloads, money or fame (#anticorpo) :]

ChaosZProject | Zombie Apocalypse
A world that has already fallen. Now try surviving in it.
ChaosZProject is a zombie apocalypse survival modpack built around abandoned cities, exploration, firearms, vehicles, hostile environments and a much more dangerous Minecraft experience.
The idea isn't to throw hundreds of random mods together and call it an apocalypse. We want the world, gameplay, progression and performance to actually work together.

So what actually is ChaosZProject?
Imagine Minecraft after society has completely collapsed.
Cities are abandoned, zombies are everywhere, resources are scattered throughout the world and surviving isn't quite as simple as punching a few trees and building a dirt hut.
You can explore enormous cities, search buildings for supplies, fight infected enemies, use firearms and vehicles, and progress through a quest system designed to help you understand the world around you.
But there's another important part of the modpack.
We actually care about how well it runs.
Large cities, modded terrain, structures, entities and all the extra gameplay systems aren't exactly cheap for Minecraft to handle. Throw everything together without thinking about performance and suddenly even a decent PC can struggle.
ChaosZProject includes dedicated performance optimizations, preconfigured settings and Lost Cities: Multithreaded to help reduce some of those costs.
In normal words: more apocalypse, less staring at a frozen Minecraft window xd.
A world worth exploring
Exploration is a pretty important part of ChaosZProject. After all, there's not much point in having an apocalypse if the entire world feels empty.
The modpack includes two primary world types, each offering a different experience.
Lost Cities
Explore abandoned urban environments filled with buildings, roads, loot and countless places to search for supplies. Cities can stretch across enormous areas, turning exploration into an actual survival challenge.
Wilderness
Prefer something less urban? The Wilderness world type offers a different environment, with more focus on natural terrain, exploration and survival outside the cities.
Expanded world generation
Additional biomes, structures and environmental changes make exploration more varied than regular Minecraft.
Loot and discovery
Buildings and structures provide opportunities to search for equipment, resources and useful items. Exploring is part of how you progress, not just something you do when you're bored.
And yh, getting lost in an abandoned city while running out of supplies isn't exactly the most comfortable experience :DDD
Survival isn't just about hunger anymore
Vanilla Minecraft survival is fairly straightforward once you've got some decent equipment.
ChaosZProject expands on that experience with additional threats, weapons, transportation and systems which change how you approach the world.
Zombies and hostile encounters
Expanded zombie threats make travelling, scavenging and defending yourself considerably more dangerous.
Firearms and equipment
Use guns and additional combat equipment to defend yourself rather than relying entirely on Minecraft's usual swords and bows.
Vehicles
Travel across the world using vehicles, making larger exploration trips and movement between locations much more practical.
Revive mechanics
Additional survival mechanics introduce more ways to handle dangerous encounters, particularly when playing with others.
Quests and progression
An extensive quest system helps explain the modpack and introduces you to its mechanics without expecting you to already know how every included mod works.
Starter equipment
Starter kits and additional loot help you get into the actual gameplay without spending the first few hours figuring out what to do.
The goal is to make surviving interesting, not just make everything annoying for no reason.
Performance actually matters
Modded Minecraft has a pretty bad habit of becoming ridiculously expensive once enough systems start interacting.
Terrain generation, structures, thousands of blocks, entities, lighting and background work all compete for the same hardware.
Now put an entire abandoned city into that equation xd.
We've tried to keep ChaosZProject accessible to a wide range of systems, including older laptops and supported integrated graphics.
Some of the performance work included in V2.1:
- Lost Cities: Multithreaded for improved city generation performance.
- Included performance mods and preconfigured optimization settings.
- Reduced unnecessary visual overhead where possible.
- Settings designed to balance visual quality and hardware requirements.
- A curated mod selection rather than simply adding everything available.
And no, this doesn't mean every PC will suddenly run the modpack at 200 FPS.
Actual performance still depends on your CPU, GPU, allocated memory, render distance, shaders and whatever else your machine is doing.
We're also aware that V2.1 still has its own performance flaws. That's one of the main reasons we're putting so much work into V2.2 and V3.
We'd rather address the underlying problems properly than pretend they're not there.
Visuals and atmosphere
A zombie apocalypse doesn't feel quite right when everything looks like a sunny afternoon in vanilla Minecraft.
ChaosZProject supports several shader packs to help create a darker, more atmospheric world.
Bliss Shaders
A good option for detailed environments, lighting and atmospheric effects.
Hysteria Shaders
Our recommendation if you want the darker apocalypse atmosphere. Fog, lighting and overall presentation fit the setting especially well.
Complementary Shaders
Another option for players who prefer a different visual style while keeping a relatively familiar Minecraft appearance.
The included shader configurations are prepared in advance, so you can enable them without having to configure everything from scratch.
Of course, you're free to adjust fog, lighting and other settings to your own preferences.
Shaders are optional. If you're playing on weaker hardware, disabling them is usually a pretty good idea xd.
System requirements
ChaosZProject was designed with accessibility in mind, but it's still a modded Minecraft apocalypse pack. Memory and hardware requirements obviously exist.
| Component | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Minimum allocated RAM | 4.5 GB |
| Recommended allocated RAM | 6 to 8 GB |
| Graphics | Dedicated GPU or supported integrated graphics |
| Shaders | Optional, hardware dependent |
Important: The modpack requires at least 4.5 GB of allocated RAM to launch.
For most users, 6 to 8 GB is the recommended allocation. Giving Minecraft significantly more memory isn't automatically going to make it faster.
Integrated graphics and older machines can be supported, although you may need to reduce your render distance and disable shaders.
And if you're unsure what settings your PC can handle, just ask us in Discord. We'll help you figure it out :]
What about multiplayer?
ChaosZProject was also designed with community gameplay in mind.
Our planned multiplayer experience includes a public server with integrated systems for communication, progression and cooperation.
- 24/7 community server.
- Server automatically included in the multiplayer list.
- Integrated voice chat.
- Land claiming.
- Map integration.
However, the official community multiplayer server is currently unavailable and is planned to return with V3.
We're not going to bring it back before the necessary systems and infrastructure are ready.
Compatibility and things you should know
There are a few things worth knowing before modifying the modpack or reporting an issue.
Important compatibility notes
- Do NOT install OptiFine. It is incompatible with the included Embeddium setup. Use the provided rendering and performance mods instead.
- Lost Cities: Multithreaded is bundled. Removing it can negatively affect performance and the intended setup.
- V2.1 is an older release. Some performance problems, mod conflicts and gameplay issues remain unresolved.
- Official community multiplayer is unavailable until V3.
- VR support is planned separately. It will not be part of the main modpack.
We also strongly recommend testing the included configuration before randomly replacing mods or changing large parts of the pack.
Obviously you're free to experiment, but once you've replaced half the rendering stack and installed twenty extra mods, we can't exactly guarantee everything will behave as expected lmao.
So what's happening with V2.2 and V3?
ChaosZProject V2.1 was built back in Q3 2025.
Since then, both our expectations and our development capabilities have changed quite a lot.
We've identified numerous issues with the existing modpack, particularly around performance, compatibility, mod integration and some of the decisions made during its earlier development.
And instead of endlessly patching around everything, we've decided to put our effort into building something better.
ChaosZProject V2.2 | Planned for December 2026
V2.2 is our next major update, focused on addressing the problems with the current release and introducing improvements from our ongoing development work.
- Performance improvements and reduced unnecessary overhead.
- Fixes for existing gameplay and compatibility issues.
- Improved configurations and mod integration.
- Selected improvements from our internally developed mods.
- Further stability and general gameplay improvements.
Don't expect every planned change in V2.2 though.
There's a LOT being worked on, and some systems simply require more development and testing than we can reasonably fit into one update xd.
ChaosZProject V3 | The major overhaul
V3 is where we're taking things considerably further.
We're planning substantial changes to the modpack's foundations, including world generation, gameplay systems, performance architecture and the way our supporting mods interact.
One of the biggest changes is that we're developing almost all of our mods in house.
That gives us far more control over how everything works together, which problems we can address directly and how the modpack can evolve without constantly depending on unrelated projects.
This is obviously a huge amount of work. We're not going to pretend otherwise.
V3 isn't just supposed to be V2 with more mods. We want it to be a genuinely different and significantly better experience.
And yh, we know the wait is frustrating, especially when V2.1 has its own issues.
But we believe that quality and actual thought behind development matter a whole lot more than rushing out updates simply to keep the download counter moving.
We'll release improvements when they're ready, tested and worth shipping. Not because we need another version number.
