Changed-Hell

Because Changed Minecraft Mod was too easy.

Welcome, to Changed Hell, also known as Drunken Modpack 4, more on that later. This modpack was created, because i really liked the first 2-3 hours of experience playing Changed Minecraft Mod, so I made an entire modpack that extends these 2-3 hours into 20-30 hours, if you're both lucky and know what you're doing.

OVERVIEW

This is a modpack for people wanting challenges, but challenges that are solved the old fashioned way, with a pickaxe and a stack of cobble or dirt. Your goal is primarily to survive, but to survive you need to build. Building requires resources, so the mines look like obvious choice. They're also relatively safe compared to the surface at night. Exploration is also important, but the world is hostile. So it might be worth it to invest some time to build paths, bridges and tunnels everywhere.

PERFORMANCE

The modpack was tested and runned well on low RAM, but i highly discourage going below 1GB RAM, with 2GB+ being recommended. It's also rather CPU friendly, but if your PC cannot handle the sheer amount of mobs, i'd suggest slightly lowering mob spawns, to 1.5 and 3 respectively in EC configs

Modpack History

One day I stumbled across one particular minecraft mod. The Minecraft Changed Mod 0.14b. I downloaded it, and had fun. The feeling of unknown, and the fact that mobs could easily kill me is not something common. But this one was different. It felt natural that I'm punished for taking risk and failing during the night. The mobs were fast, but not unfair to fight. The 5 hit transfur meter felt like it was justified. 2 hearts for each hit. This felt to me like what vanilla minecraft should be, hard, but not unfair. Except for the graphics, they were out of place, but I never cared about aesthetics. And i felt this really nice feeling of playing minecraft until 3 hours later i got the DL Yufeng syringe, and then the magic instantly dissapeared with difficulty dropping to zero. I made a server, invited some friends, and because i was really ill and high temperature was giving me hallucinations and stuff, the initial modpack was called Drunken Modpack 1. We played for a while, but I wanted to feel the feeling I had during the first couple of hours. So I disabled beds, the main way to get safely transfurred in Changed mod, to get it again. 7 hours later, I've found a workaround. That's how Drunken Modpack 2 fell.

Later, I experimented with the generator and found out just how amazing (and difficult to explore) the vanilla Amplified generator is. So I used it, disabled a few more things, and Drunkend Modpack 2.5 was born. It took me way longer to get a totem of undying than usual. But it was fun. It was at this time, where the modpack started to become difficult. So I followed in this direction, and made the Drunken Modpack 3, the final private version of this modpack. It had a lot of disabled features, and the remnants of DM3 can be easily seen in DM4. The whole "drunkenmodpackcore" datapack is a remnant of it, as well as the ideas behind THIS configs and restrictions. It was also DM3 that first introduced the idea of defeating bosses to get items, but it was way, way more unrewarding than DM4. In DM3, ALL items were gated behind the Exp9. You got nothing from beating other bosses. And DM3 was fun. It was difficult, but not unfair, as the player always has an advantage over mobs, and in such an anarchistic and unpredictable envinronment that is minecraft survival, it felt justified. But it made me realize that there are things to improve. Most importantly, one skip that was the curse of this modpack. The skip, of getting a safe transfur, described on Changed Mod github. So I had to wait till 0.14.1, before publishing this. And by the time it came, Changed Addon got a few nice updates, mostly boss buffs to make it harder to cheese them, and by extension, making the intended way of beating this modpack harder.

As I played Changed Hell 4 and Changed MC 0.14.1 in general, I noticed that one feature got added. An exoskeleton, seemingly OP item that in practice, turned out to be really bad. And then, after some talks with dahotdogdesant, I got a few ideas on how the modpack could be improved, while making it even more difficult than before. And after way too long development time, DM5 was made, featuring a brand new chapter.
