Harder Farther mod now has Grim Towers, which are skyscrapers that create a mist effect of an approximately 2k radius.  Mobs in this area may be enhanced and have special abilities (invisible creepers, anyone? phantoms that drop TNT maybe?) until the tower is defeated.  (See THIS LINK for more information)
