ArsColonies 1.2.0

Released: June 02, 2025 Minecraft Version: 1.21.1

This significant update overhauls how client settings are managed to resolve an issue where user configurations could be reset. We're introducing the "Default Options" mod for a more robust and user-friendly system. Additionally, please see the note below regarding our versioning scheme going forward.

Key Changes & Improvements:

  • Resolved Settings Reset Issue & Improved Configuration Management:
    • Removed the options.txt file from the pack's direct overrides.
    • Added the Default Options mod by BlayTheNinth. This mod now intelligently manages default client configurations.
    • Benefit: This change will prevent users' custom keybinds, video settings, and other options from being reset when updating ArsColonies. Your settings should now persist reliably between updates!
  • Default Menu Background Blurriness:
    • The client setting menuBackgroundBlurriness is now defaulted to 0 for new pack installations via the new Default Options system. This is intended to prevent potential UI conflicts with shader pack menus.
    • Existing Users: Your options.txt file will not be overwritten by this change. Your current settings (including any manual adjustments to blur options) will remain. The primary benefit for you in this update is the prevention of future settings resets.

A Note on Our Versioning Scheme (Starting with 1.2.0):

To provide clearer and more predictable updates, we'll be adhering more closely to a common versioning practice from this release (1.2.0) onwards. Our versions are structured as MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH (with an occasional fourth digit for urgent HOTFIXES):

  • MAJOR (e.g., 1.x.x → 2.0.0): Reserved for significant, potentially world-breaking changes.
  • MINOR (e.g., 1.1.3 → 1.2.0): Used for new features, adding or removing mods, or significant pack configuration changes (like this update). When the MINOR version number increases, the PATCH number will now reset to 0.
  • PATCH (e.g., 1.2.0 → 1.2.1): For regular mod updates, bug fixes, and smaller enhancements.

This 1.2.0 release reflects a MINOR update because a new mod ("Default Options") was added and a significant pack configuration system was changed. We hope this refinement makes our version progression even clearer for everyone!

As always, it is highly recommended to back up your world before updating your modpack. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to improve ArsColonies!
