3790's Elytra Slot

3790's Elytra Slot is a vanilla-style Fabric mod that adds a dedicated Elytra equipment slot.

It allows players to wear normal chest armor and an Elytra at the same time while preserving vanilla Elytra flight, durability, enchantments, multiplayer synchronization, and equipment lifecycle behavior.

Features

• Adds a dedicated Elytra slot to the player inventory.
• Wear chest armor and an Elytra at the same time.
• Uses the vanilla Elytra for normal gliding behavior.
• Supports fireworks while gliding.
• Preserves vanilla Elytra durability behavior.
• Supports Unbreaking and Mending.
• Supports Survival inventory interactions, including normal mouse actions, Shift-click and dropping.
• Equipment persists across:
  • disconnects and reconnects
  • server restarts
  • death and respawn
  • dimension changes
• Supports multiplayer equipment synchronization.
• Renders the equipped Elytra in the world.
• Automatically hides the vanilla Cape while an Elytra is equipped and restores it when removed.
• Can be used without any other fashion or cosmetic mod.

Requirements

• Minecraft Java Edition 26.2
• Fabric Loader 0.19.3 or newer
• Fabric API 0.158.0+26.2 or newer for Minecraft 26.2
• Java 25

The currently supported Java range is:

>=25 <26

Tested Fabric combinations include:

• Fabric Loader 0.19.3 + Fabric API 0.158.0+26.2
• Fabric Loader 0.19.5 + Fabric API 0.159.0+26.2

Higher versions are not automatically guaranteed to be compatible.

Item Scroller compatibility

Version 0.1.1 includes a compatibility fix for Item Scroller inventory sorting.

The following combination has been specifically tested:

• Minecraft 26.2
• Item Scroller 0.32.1
• MaLiLib 0.29.5

With this combination, sorting the normal inventory or hotbar does not move equipped armor, the offhand item, or the dedicated Elytra slot.

Other Item Scroller or MaLiLib versions have not been verified and are not currently guaranteed to use this compatibility fix.

Item Scroller and MaLiLib are optional client-side mods and are not required dependencies of 3790's Elytra Slot.

Installation

1. Install Fabric Loader for Minecraft 26.2.
2. Install Fabric API.
3. Download 3790s-elytra-slot-0.1.1.jar.
4. Place the JAR in your mods folder.
5. For multiplayer, install 3790's Elytra Slot on both the client and server.

Do not install the sources.jar as a normal mod.

Upgrading

When updating from an older version:

1. Back up your world.
2. Close the game and server normally.
3. Remove the old Elytra Slot JAR.
4. Install the new JAR.
5. Do not keep multiple versions of Elytra Slot in the same mods folder.

No configuration reset or world deletion is required.

Uninstalling

Before uninstalling the mod:

Remove the Elytra from the dedicated slot and place it back into your normal inventory, then save and exit normally.

Minecraft can preserve the underlying BODY equipment data without this mod, but vanilla inventory screens do not provide access to the dedicated Elytra slot.

Backing up your world before changing the mod list is recommended.

Known limitations

• Only the vanilla Minecraft Elytra is officially supported.
• Arbitrary modded gliders are not supported.
• Some non-essential Creative inventory shortcuts intentionally perform no action for safety.
• Spectator mode only receives basic compatibility support.
• The normal inventory player preview may not display the additional Elytra wings.
• Cape physics / Waverycape-style physics are not included.
• Forge and NeoForge are not supported.
• Only Minecraft 26.2 is currently supported.
