WorldLink 0.1.2 — The Hailey Update
This update is named after my daughter Hailey, whose ideas inspired the new portal effects in this release. ❤️
Known issue: 0.1.2 crashes dedicated servers during startup. A hotfix is in progress.
WorldLink portals now feel considerably more alive and dramatic, with new activation, ambient, destruction, and travel effects. Implementing those ideas also helped uncover several nasty edge cases involving large portals, shared frames, intersecting portals, and orphaned portal membranes—which have now been fixed.
✨ New Portal Effects
- Portal Implosion
- Breaking a required part of an active portal frame now causes the portal membrane to dramatically implode.
- Added dedicated collapse particles and effects when portals close.
- Swirling Ambient Particles
- Reworked active portal particles with a swirling, potion-like appearance.
- Portal interiors now feel more energetic while remaining visually clean.
- Lightning Ignition
- Igniting a valid WorldLink frame now calls down lightning at the point of activation.
- Lightning works across supported dynamic portal sizes and orientations.
- Travel Distortion
- Added Nether-inspired screen distortion while standing inside an active WorldLink portal.
- The effect progressively intensifies during the travel countdown.
- Distortion continues through the transition sequence for a more immersive world-travel experience.
🌀 Dynamic Portal Improvements
- Improved ignition detection for larger portal frames.
- Improved portal selection when multiple valid frames share blocks.
- Fixed cases where lighting one portal could incorrectly activate a neighboring shared-frame portal.
- Improved handling of intersecting and unusually constructed portal networks.
- Preserved support for optional frame corners.
💥 Portal Collapse & Shared-Frame Fixes
- Breaking a required shared frame block now correctly identifies all affected active portals before beginning collapse.
- Fixed cases where only some portals in complex shared-frame structures would close.
- Added a physical membrane safety system for orphaned or stale portal interiors.
- Remaining portal membranes can now be detected from their actual blocks even when their stored portal metadata is missing or invalid.
- Fixed the infamous floating ghost portal that could survive after its entire surrounding frame was destroyed.
- Improved cleanup behavior for complicated intersecting portal structures.
🔧 Fixes & Polish
- Improved reliability of portal frame validation and destruction.
- Improved behavior when multiple active portals occupy the same structure.
- Preserved portal implosion particles, sounds, endpoint cleanup, and other effects during the new collapse handling.
- Additional stability and edge-case fixes discovered during extensive portal testing.
❤️ Special Thanks
A huge thank-you to Hailey for suggesting the ideas that became the heart of this update:
portal implosions, lightning activation, and visual travel distortion.
Those ideas didn't just make WorldLink look better—they led us into some wonderfully horrible portal edge cases and ultimately made the entire portal system more robust.
Thanks, Hailey, for making WorldLink considerably more awesome. ❤️
