Windy

Brings subtle wind to minecraft

Description

Windy

Air you can see. One wind drives the whole world - it wanders, it swells, and every so often it gathers into a gust - and underneath it every biome gets its own drifting air even in dead calm.

Two systems, two switches. The wind, and the ambient biome air. Either runs fine with the other turned off.

The wind

What you notice is the stripes: long ribbons that run downwind, weave as they travel and follow the ground over hills. Then motes tumbling in the current, pale wisps during a gust, leaves torn off treetops, near-horizontal snow in cold storms, and dust skimming off sand in hot ones.

stripes

Stripes running downwind over a mesa.

Torn leaves keep their own tree's colour, so cherry stays pink and birch stays birch. /windy gust starts one immediately if you just want to look at it.

The air in every biome

Always on, works in still air, and picks a palette from the biome's own temperature and rainfall - so modded biomes it has never heard of still get something sensible:

  • Fireflies over swamps and forests after dark.
  • Pollen through jungles and lush caves by day.
  • Heat dust drifting low across deserts and badlands.
  • Embers off lava and through the Nether.
  • Snow sparkle on frozen peaks, petals in a cherry grove.

Things you can turn off

  • Fireflies at dusk, spores and dust by day.
  • Motes fading during rain.
  • Everything damping when you cannot see the sky.
  • Your vanilla particle setting is honoured - eased off on Decreased, stopped on Minimal.
