✨ About
Why Can't I Sleep? tells you exactly what's keeping you awake at night, and then makes the night itself worth playing. Your bed says no? You'll know why, see where the culprits are, and get a hint to fix it. And when the monsters come for you, crawl under the bed and don't make a sound.
- 👁️ Monster highlights that show exactly which mobs blocked your sleep
- 🧭 Arrows and rings that point to the ones you can't see
- 💬 An explanation for every failed sleep, with a hint on what to do
- 🫣 Hiding under beds and tables, in chests and closets
- 🌙 Sleep quality: every night is scored, and how you sleep matters
- 😱 Night terrors for those who stay up too long
- 👥 A bedtime panel for servers: who's still awake, and why
An in-game guide book, the Insomniac's Handbook, is given to you on your first join and covers it all.
👁️ Monster highlights
When monsters stop you from sleeping, the exact mobs responsible glow for a few seconds.
- Only the real culprits: just the mobs inside the game's own check range, so it helps without being a wallhack.
- Colored by threat: tell a creeper from a spider at a glance. The most dangerous one throbs brighter.
- Arrows and rings: arrows around your crosshair point to blockers outside your view, and a pulsing ring marks one that's in view but behind blocks.
- Trails: faint footprints show where the blockers walked.
- The room is safe: deal with every blocker in time and you're told so; stand by the bed and you lie straight down.
💬 Every reason, explained
Vanilla gives you one vague line. This mod replaces it with a card that says what went wrong and what to do: monsters nearby (3 monsters nearby, closest: Zombie, 6 blocks below), the wrong time, too far from the bed, a blocked or occupied bed, and how many more players need to sleep. Using a bed where beds explode (the Nether, the End) warns you first; use it again to go ahead.
🫣 Hiding
Sneak and use a hiding spot with empty hands to hide in it, where nothing can see you. Stay hidden long enough and the monsters after you give up and vanish.
- Hiding spots: under a bed, under a table (two top slabs or upside-down stairs with carpet on top), inside a double chest, or in a closet (a door with a nook behind it). Data packs can add more.
- Stay still: moving or looking about wildly makes noise. Make too much with monsters near and you're found.
- Heartbeat: hide while something is chasing you and you'll have to keep your heart calm, clicking on the beat.
- Squinting: your view narrows between eyelids while you hide, and the world outside sounds muffled through whatever you're hiding in.
- The details: walls around your spot make it safer, a monster may come to search it, now and then a silverfish is already in there, and after coming out you need a moment before you can hide again.
Bosses (the Wither, the Ender Dragon, the Warden, Elder Guardians) aren't fooled.
🌙 Sleep quality
Every night is scored from 0 to 100, and the morning tells you how you slept and why.
- What counts: a closed room, the light, monsters prowling nearby, music from a jukebox (calm discs help, creepy and loud ones don't), the flowers, candles or skulls around your bed, and how long you've gone without sleep.
- Well rested: a closed, well-lit room and a full night leave you with a little regeneration.
- Sleep effects: wake up with a dream: positive ones after good nights, negative ones after bad ones, from common to legendary.
- Sleep debt: a moon fills up for each day you go without sleep, and your inventory has a button showing how you've been sleeping.
😱 Night terrors
Stay up too long and lying down may bring sleep paralysis. You can't move, your eyes are stuck half open, the room fills with a red-black fog, and something wells up at the foot of your bed while shadow hands reach for you. The longer you stayed awake, the worse it is, and you wake up shaken. Stay up three days and it hurts.
👥 Sleeping together
On servers, nights only skip when enough players sleep.
- Bedtime panel: while you're in bed, see how many are asleep and who is still up and why: in another dimension, mining, fighting, or away.
- Nudges: give a friendly poke to whoever is keeping everyone up.
- Sleep vote: when only a player or two are still up, those in bed can vote to skip the night. Those still up are asked first.

❓ FAQ
Is this a cheat? No. It only highlights mobs that are already blocking your sleep, only for a few seconds, and server owners can limit or turn it off.
Can I turn off the scary parts? Yes. Night terrors, the heartbeat minigame and every other part have their own setting.
Does it work with other sleep mods? It should work alongside most of them. If you find a conflict, please tell us on Discord.
