Description
Whiteout — Winter Horror Map Toolkit
Whiteout is a mod for creating winter horror and adventure maps in Minecraft. It adds various weather effects, survival mechanics and tools for building story-driven maps.
The main idea is to make winter environments feel more atmospheric and dangerous, while giving map creators enough control to create their own scenarios.
The mod adds heavy snowstorms, 3D snow particles, fog, cold, stamina, visible breath, footprints and frost that gradually appears on the player's screen.
There are also battery-powered headlamps and a shelter system. Staying inside a protected area allows players to recover from the cold and avoid the effects of bad weather.
The Meteo Resonator allows map creators to set up different areas with their own weather, music and events.
These events can include distant footsteps, silhouettes, flickering lights, strange sounds and other small horror effects. They can happen randomly or be triggered by certain conditions and player actions.
Whiteout also has an electricity system with fuel-powered generators, fuse panels and connected lights.
Generators need to be started manually and can be used to power certain areas. The system can also be connected to story events, such as restoring electricity to a building or causing a blackout.
Story Tools
There are several systems for creating custom stories and events:
Director — for recording and playing cutscenes. F7
Dialogues — conversations with different answers and conditions.
Easy NPC support — allows dialogues to be used with NPCs.
Objectives — tasks that players can complete throughout the map.
Story variables — used to track player choices and progress.
Checkpoints — for saving story progression.
Scripted events — for triggering sounds, dialogues, cutscenes and other actions.
These systems can work together, so certain events or dialogues can change depending on what the player has already done.
Music and Sounds
Whiteout currently includes seven built-in music tracks. You can also import your own .ogg files or music resource packs through the Music Library.
Music can be assigned to different zones and used during story events. Tracks can also change automatically when the player moves between areas.
The mod includes a few building blocks, such as Rimed Glass and Rotten Spruce Planks, which can be useful when building abandoned or winter-themed locations.
Mod loader: Fabric
Main Minecraft version: 1.21.1
Fabric API: Required for the mod to work properly, including dialogues.
Easy NPC 7.13.0: Recommended for NPC dialogue support. Other versions haven't been fully tested and may cause issues.
Shaders: Mainly developed with BSL shaders in mind. Other shaders might work, but some visual effects may have issues.
Languages: The mod is primarily in Russian, but an English translation option is available.
Whiteout is mainly intended for custom horror and adventure maps rather than regular survival gameplay.
The mod is still being developed, so some features may change or have occasional bugs.
