What's new

Web Swinger 1.0.0-beta.5

New Features

NeoForge

  • The mod runs on NeoForge now too (1.21.1, 21.1.200 or newer). Everything works on both loaders.
  • If you have Cloth Config, the settings open from NeoForge's mod list.

Web Lines

  • With a web already out, click that web button again looking at a wall or, if close enough, right click the wall. That will create a web line if the conditions are met (not too much steepness on the angle, clear line of sight between the 2 walls). While swinging you can't click the web button again to set it up to avoid accidentally placing it down.
  • You can walk on them from above, from the sides and from bellow you phase throught them, kinda like a scaffolding
  • Swing and zip webs stick to lines like they do to walls, and you can perch on them by crouching
  • Lines stay up until you cut them (crouch + right click) or the wall they're on breaks. Max 12 at once, a 13th one snaps the oldest (per player)
  • Making a line costs 1 web charge.
  • New server options: Web Lines Despawn (off by default) and how long a line lasts with nobody on it.

Spider Sense

  • A mob coming for you or a shot thats going to hit you will trigger the spider sense.
  • You get faster, jump higher and sometimes (around 1 out of three times) you auto dodge projectiles
  • The auto dodge won't happen while youre crouching, blocking with a shield, swimming, riding a mob, hanging off a line or on a wall.

Flips

  • Release tricks got redone from scratch. Letting go now keeps the spin the swing gave you, so let go on the upswing for a backflip, on the backswing for a front flip, sideways for a side flip
  • You control parts of the spin in the air. Hold Space to tuck and spin faster (keep holding for a double or triple), let go to open up and land, and hold A or D while tucked to twist.
  • Swinging the camera or holding A/D when you let go throws a twist that way.
  • The corner HUD counts and names the flips you land with a combo (Name Landed Flips option).
  • New poses, tricks and animations added.
  • A full swing can take you over the top of a loop now, upside down, and letting go up there keeps going from upside down. Before it got a bit lost with the positions and the head went crazy

Combat

  • Flying kick (thanks to cansaycat3719 for the suggestion): zip with both hands into a mob thats too heavy to pull and you kick him instead. Damage and knockback go up with your speed.
  • Mobs cant melee you while youre zipping (again cansaycat3719's suggestions, thanks), until you land. Projectiles, explosions and players still can damage you tho.
  • A web shot that goes through a dropped item takes it along and sticks it wherever it lands. Crouch + right click to rip it off (thanks to speakingcat for the suggestions, lots of cats like spider-man mods apparently).
  • Slams, flying kicks and the web bomb each have their own cooldown now (5, 4 and 12 seconds). Theyre shown as one line split in 3 on the corner HUD.

Web Bomb

  • In web shot mode, hold both arm buttons to charge it. Let go when its full to throw it
  • It leaves web stretched to the walls, floor and ceiling around it for 15 seconds. If it doesnt hit anything it pops in the air after around 2.5 seconds.
  • Walking through that web slows you down
  • Doors, trapdoors and gates stuck in the web stay shut until it's gone. Same for chests, barrels and shulker boxes
  • You can catch it mid air with a swing line. You can swing it around, a zip reels it back to you, and shooting it with web shots while on air makes it bigger (up to 2x, with a bigger burst and web).

Movement

  • If a swing brushes the floor you keep your speed to avoid losing momentum
  • Land on a roof holding sprint and you keep your speed for some time
  • Hit a wall head on and you run up it if you have the wall climbing toggled on. Jumping near the top now makes you leap onto the roof instead of outwards from it.
  • Stepped ceilings, like under stairs or slabs, crawl as one smooth slope
  • New Swing Physics option: Heavy, if the swinging feels too fast to control. Dynamic is still the default.
  • New Swing Ground Assist option (off by default): shortens your web when youre about to hit the ground.

Suits & Web Shooters

  • New suits: Negative and Noir.
  • Suit addons: some suits have extra pieces that can be toggled in the Sewing Machine. For now only Noir has it, a fedora and a trench coat that reacts to movement.
  • Web shooter styles: Classic, Amazing, Discreet, Scarlet and Iron Spider, on the Sewing Machine's second tab. Same deal as the suits, unlock them with XP.
  • With Accessories installed, web shooters fit the wrist slot and show on your arms over the suit (hidden under a symbiote or with the slot's visibility toggle).
  • The Negative suit glows in the dark, the Amazing shooters' red lights up and the Amazing suit's gold lenses get a reflective-like shine
  • Resource packs can make any suit, shooter or symbiote texture glow, just put a <texture>_glow.png next to it. The alpha of each pixel is how much it glows.

Mod Compatibility

  • Sable: webs stick to physics ships and move with them. Swing lines pull both ways, so a ship drags you around and you can drag a small one back (clever_wiles9310006's suggestion on CurseForge)

Animation & Visuals

  • Swinging moves the whole body now, not just the legs, trying to get it more dynamic
  • Upside down swings pull the web hand in to the belly, plus a new split legs hang
  • Zipping yanks the line back behind the back
  • Webs fly out in big comic book loops and snap straight when they pull.
  • Crouch landings got better animations, closer to comic / figure posings I searched online
  • The perch is a deep squat now, hands on the edge, over a knee or outwards
  • In first person your arm comes up into view when the web goes out and goes back down after instead of snapping into existence.
  • Webs are one cel shaded thread with knots now.
  • Webs get lit by the world like the blocks around them.
  • Symbiote webs are solid goo in the suit's color.

Changes

  • The old beta.4 tricks (Pike, Scissor, Stag, Drill etc) are gone, replaced by the new flips.
  • First-Person Body Camera option got replaced by First-Person Trick Camera: flips and twists spin the view once and faster (still kinda unusable) (off by default).
  • The tall landings (three point, stagger, four point) are gone.
  • Damage rebalance: powered punch is 6 (was 7), symbiote adds 3.5 on top (was 4), ground slam does 4-10 at the center (was 4-16), mob slam does 6-14 to the thrown mob (was 6-18) and the mobs around it take full ground slam damage now. The new flying kick does 10-14.
  • Swing speed fades over two hops, so no more bunny hopping forever (user_23qhoqaytcj53nfg's suggestion on CurseForge, thanks!).
  • Zipping to a big mob takes time based on distance, so short ones dont go extremely slow anymore.
  • Slingshotting into a wall counts as a wall impact now, same as a two handed zip (also user_23qhoqaytcj53nfg's suggestion).
  • Dives only tip over as fast as you're falling, instead of going belly down on a flat flight.
  • The camera keeps vanilla's view bob while wall running.
  • New client option Slack Web Draping: how often a loose web checks what its lying on (the bigger the number the better the performance, but worsen the looks a bit with saggy webs).

Fixes

  • Fixed tricks and poses going 2x speed with Iris shaders.
  • Fixed limbs snapping at the bottom of a swing and when switching poses.
  • Fixed flips into a dive going upright before diving.
  • Fixed the web arm and head snapping when catching a line mid flip.
  • Fixed arms pointing at your eye instead of along the flying web.
  • Fixed the off hand (or main hand holding something) popping in and out in first person when shooting.
  • Fixed webs being too bright in the dark and too dark in the light.
  • Fixed the shockwave not happening when a mob you zipped down died from the fall.
