Water is Lava
Oceans are lava. So are the rivers. What water you have left, you carry in a bucket. And two buckets no longer make three. Lava oceans and finite water. Mod for an extreme survival run
Three features:
1. The world generates no water. Oceans, rivers, lakes, aquifers — all lava. The shoreline is a wall you cannot swim past.
2. Two water sources no longer make a third. Water stops being infinite and becomes something you count.
3. Nothing else is touched. Cauldrons still fill with rain. Structures keep their water.
What a game looks like
The first hour, the coast is a wall of fire. No swimming, no crossing. Your continent is the only land you will walk.
Water is found, never made (little springs, cauldrons, desert wells, farm plots, ruins...). Take it, and it is gone for good.
What you lose
The open sea is gone, and most of what lived in it goes with it. No squid, no drowned, so no trident and no nautilus shell, and therefore no conduit.
Installing
Start a new world. The mod only changes chunks generated after you install it. An existing world keeps the water it already has, and only fresh terrain comes out as lava.
Install it on the server, or in your instance for singleplayer. It is not required on the client — the logic is entirely server-side.
Two switches in config/waterislava.properties:
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
lava_oceans |
true |
world generation puts lava where it would have put water |
water_source_duplication |
false |
leave it off — this is what makes water finite |
Both are read once at load. Restart to apply.
