# Wake Up Intro
**Don't just pop into the world. Wake up in it.**
The first time you join, your character slowly opens their eyes, blinks a couple of times, looks left and right to get their bearings, then sits up and gets on their feet. Only then do you get control. When you die, a shorter version plays as you respawn, and after a night's sleep you wake up in your bed.
A small touch that makes the first moment of any world, modpack or roleplay server feel like the start of a story.
---
## ✦ What it does
- **Eyes opening.** The screen starts black, the eyelids open with two slow blinks, and the "half asleep" darkness fades away.
- **Looking around.** The camera starts lying on your back looking at the sky, sits up, looks to both sides and stands up to normal eye height.
- **Its own bed version.** After a night's sleep it feels like a morning, on your actual bed: you start on the pillow with a warm glare of daylight instead of darkness, squint, glance toward the side you'll get out on, sit up on that edge of the bed and stand up right where the game puts you.
- **Falling asleep too.** When you get into bed the camera glides onto the pillow instead of snapping there, the view rises to the sky, the eyes slowly close and the HUD and "Leave Bed" button go away (Escape still gets you up). The eyes stay closed until the bed intro opens them in the morning.
- **Works in third person.** If you're in third person (F5, Better Third Person, Smooth F5...), the animations switch you to first person and give your view back when they end. With **Shoulder Surfing Reloaded** you go back to the over-the-shoulder view. F5 waits until they're over.
- **Smooth at any frame rate.** The animation runs on real time and updates every frame, so it stays fluid at 60, 144 FPS or more.
- **Music right away.** On first join and respawn, the normal Minecraft music for where you are starts as soon as the intro begins, at your own music volume. Waking up in bed leaves the music as it was.
- **Safe while waking up.** You can't move, attack, use items or open inventories during the intro, and you take no damage. The pause menu and chat still work.
- **Skippable (optional).** Hold the jump key for a second to skip it. Servers can turn skipping off.

## ⏱ When it plays
| Moment | Default | Length |
|---|---|---|
| First time a player joins the world | On | 10.5 s (full intro) |
| Respawning after death | On | 3.5 s (short intro) |
| Waking up after sleeping through the night | On | 5 s (bed intro) |
The full intro plays only once per player per world, even after dying.
---
## ⌨ Command (op level 2)
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| `/wakeup <players>` | Plays the full intro for those players |
| `/wakeup <players> short` | Plays the short intro |
| `/wakeup <players> bed` | Plays the bed intro |
Great for roleplay servers: wake everyone up at the start of an event.

## ⚙ Configuration
Change everything in game from **Mods → Wake Up Intro → Config**, or edit `config/wakeupintro-common.toml` (on a server, the **server's** file decides):
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| `firstJoin` | `true` | Full intro on first join |
| `respawn` | `true` | Short intro on respawn |
| `bed` | `true` | Bed intro after sleeping through the night |
| `firstJoinSeconds` | `10.5` | Length of the full intro |
| `shortSeconds` | `3.5` | Length of the respawn intro |
| `bedSeconds` | `5.0` | Length of the bed intro |
| `allowSkip` | `true` | Hold jump to skip |
| `protect` | `true` | No damage during the intro |
`config/wakeupintro-client.toml`: `lookAround` (camera looks to the sides), `startMusic` (start the music when the intro begins), `sleepAnimation` (close the eyes when going to bed), `sleepSeconds` (how long that takes, 4 s) and `forceFirstPerson` (switch to first person during the animations).

## ℹ Notes
- Install it on **both** the client and the server for the wake-up intros. Players with the mod can still join servers without it: they don't get the intros, but the going-to-bed animation is client side and works anywhere.
