Velvet Night 2.0.0 — Complete Darkness Rebuild
Velvet Night 2.0 completely rebuilds the mod’s lighting, configuration, and first-launch experience.
Changes:
• Rebuilt the entire 256-cell lightmap darkness system.
• Fixed the darkness controls so adjusting the sliders now visibly changes nights and caves.
• Added a new first-launch setup screen that asks how dark you want Minecraft to be.
• Replaced the old F8 detection with a proper Minecraft key binding.
• Added an overall darkness slider.
• Added separate controls for outdoor darkness, cave darkness, visibility, moon influence, block-light protection, night tint, and shader strength.
• Added four darkness presets: Gentle, Velvet, Realistic, and True Dark.
• True Dark can reach complete darkness in genuinely unlit areas.
• The default Velvet preset remains dark and atmospheric while preserving faint silhouettes.
• Improved the preservation of torches, lanterns, lava, emissive blocks, and other block-light sources.
• Improved moon-phase, rain, weather, sunset, and sunrise behavior.
• Improved support for Night Vision, Conduit Power, lightning flashes, and the Darkness effect.
• Updated live shader assistance for recognized Complementary and BSL lighting paths through Iris and Oculus.
• Added selectable shader profiles with a safe lightmap fallback for unsupported shader packs.
• Velvet Night never modifies shader-pack ZIP files or permanently changes shader settings.
• Added separate Forge and Fabric builds for Minecraft 1.20.1.
• Lowered the minimum supported Forge version to Forge 47.1.0.
• Fabric API is not required.
• Velvet Night remains completely client-side. Servers do not need the mod installed.
