What's new

TRMT Reimagined 0.9.216 — first public release

Minecraft 1.7.10 and 1.12.2, on Forge. One mod, one version number, a jar for each.

Ground wears into paths along the routes you actually walk, and grows back once you stop using them.

Wear is kept as server-side data and painted on your client as ghost blocks. No block is ever written into the world, so this can be switched off for one player, disabled across a server, or deleted outright without a square of terrain having changed.

What is in it

  • Eighty gradations of wear per square, sinking to half a block, with collision to match.
  • Ten surface families — grass, dirt, sand, gravel, stone, cobblestone, snow, ice, netherrack, end stone — detected across a whole pack rather than listed by hand. Grass loses its cover into the earth beneath as it sinks, which is how it ships; one switch, general.wearThroughToOtherSurfaces, extends the same wearing-through to stone, cobble and gravel.
  • Wear textures generated from each block's own pixels, so modded ground wears in its own colours. Eleven looks for surfaces nobody drew art for, with a picker that draws each one on your own blocks.
  • Recovery per family, from snow at six in-game days to end stone at four hundred, worked out from the world clock so unloaded chunks heal too — and rain that hurries it along, or gates it, if you ask.
  • Hand, chunk and magic tampers; reinforcement, spawn ward and path light; the Wayfarer's Tamper; the Golem of Ways and its eleven upgrades, nine that change one thing each and two that carry the whole set.
  • Four guide books, sixteen achievements (advancements on 1.12.2), and quest and trophy definitions written as BetterQuesting's and Amazing Trophies' own data files.
  • An in-game config screen, five preset choosers and an editable wear table.
  • Waila or Hwyla, JourneyMap, Xaero's Minimap, Angelica/Iris, Chisel and GregTech support, each behind a check that the other mod is there.

Which jar

Minecraft Jar Needs
1.7.10 trmtr-1.7.10-0.9.216.jar Forge 10.13.4.1614+ and UniMixins
1.12.2 trmtr-1.12.2-0.9.216.jar Forge 14.23.5.2847+ and MixinBooter

The mixin loader is required in both cases — this mod uses mixins and has no coremod of its own — and both links above go straight to the download. On 1.12.2 the jar declares the dependency, so you are told at the loading screen if it is missing; on 1.7.10 nothing in the jar declares it, so that one is on you to remember.

Any Java your pack already runs on. The jars are Java 8 bytecode, which runs on Java 8 and on everything after it — so a modern pack that launches 1.7.10 on Java 17 or 21, as GT: New Horizons does, needs no special handling and no downgrade.

Everything else is optional. On a server it is the server that keeps the wear and sends it out, and the mod has to be on every client as well: Forge's block and item handshake refuses any client missing a server's blocks, and this mod registers some.

The two editions are the same mod

Same behaviour, same numbers, same settings file — a pack can move between Minecraft versions and find its edits where it left them. Twenty-six classes are shared between them byte for byte, with a test that fails the build if the copies ever drift.

Where one version cannot do what the other does, it is because Minecraft took away what the behaviour was built on. All of it is listed in docs/COMPATIBILITY.md; the three worth knowing before you choose:

  • Maps. Both colour worn ground per position. 1.7.10 does it by reaching into JourneyMap's and Xaero's internals, which lets it darken a road by any fraction and tint a route violet. 1.12.2 answers once per position so every map reads it — the vanilla map item included — but the answer is one of vanilla's sixty-four palette entries, so mapWearDarkening, desirePathHighlight and mapWearThroughTint do nothing there.
  • Progression. 1.12 removed achievements, so 1.12.2 ships the same sixteen as advancements.
  • Shaders. client.inheritShaderMaterial is 1.7.10 only.

First release

Neither edition has been published anywhere before, so there is nothing to list changes against. The changelog describes the whole of what is here, by area.
