Description
Tree Hollows Revived
Now and then a tree in the wild has a hollow in its trunk: a small hidden stash with a little loot inside. Keep an eye on the trees on your travels.
It carries on Tree Hollows by Reoseah, for new versions of Minecraft and for NeoForge.
Features
- Hollows in trees: about one tree in twenty has a hollow in its trunk, a little above head height, in the trees of every vanilla wood.
- A little loot: sticks, feathers, eggs, seeds, mushrooms and gold nuggets, and with luck an enchanted book, an emerald or a music disc.
- Take one home: mine a hollow with Silk Touch to keep it as a small 3×3 container. Without it, a hollow breaks into sticks.
- Trees you grow sometimes get a hollow too, but an empty one.
Crafting
Hollows can't be crafted: they're found in trees.
Dependencies
Required:
- YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL), on every loader: 3.8.2 or later for 1.21.1, 3.9.7 or later for 26.3.
- Fabric API on Fabric and Quilt.
Optional: Mod Menu on Fabric and Quilt, to open the config screen from the mod list.
Quilt on 26.3: for now, clients need Quilt Loader 0.31.0 (a beta). YACL crashes the current stable release, 0.30.1, at startup. 1.21.1 runs on the stable release.
Config
| Setting | Default | |
|---|---|---|
| Hollows in generated trees | 5% | Share of the trees generated with the world that get a hollow, 0 to 100% |
| Hollows in grown trees | 5% | Share of the trees grown from saplings that get an empty hollow, 0 to 100% |
For datapack authors
Loot: each wood has its own loot table, data/tree_hollows_revived/loot_table/tree_hollow/<wood>.json (oak, spruce, cherry and so on). They all draw from the same three tables in that folder, common, uncommon and rare. Replace a wood's table to change that wood's loot, or a shared one to change them all. The seeds come from the c:seeds tag, so seeds from other mods turn up too.
Tags: tree_hollows_revived:hollows holds every hollow, as blocks and as items.
Trees: every tree whose trunk is a vanilla log can get a hollow. To give one of your tree features its own chance, name the hollow among its decorators:
"decorators": [
{ "type": "tree_hollows_revived:tree_hollow", "chance": 0.2 }
]
chance is the share of these trees that get a hollow, from 0 to 1, in new and grown trees alike; 0 keeps hollows out of them. Without chance, the settings apply.

- Based on Tree Hollows by Reoseah, which its author released into the public domain: the idea, and the loot tables.
