0.2.0: Let them cook
Welcome to the first update of Townstead, focused on optional Farmer's Delight compatibility. This update introduces some foundational change that will guide the rest of this mod's build, such as tiered building and profession progression, new UI, bug fixes, and quality of life changes.
Related to the hunger mechanic, we have a new profession that your villagers can adopt if you have Farmer's Delight installed: the Cook. A cook will use either a campfire, skillet, cooking pot, or cutting board, to automatically prepare meals from the ingredients available in your kitchen. Your what, your kitchen? Yes, there is a new building with five tiers, that will let your cooks handle more advanced recipes, starting from the simple Hearth Kitchen all the way to the luxurious Grand Kitchen. The entire building itself serves as a workstation for villagers to assign themselves as cooks, and as you upgrade the kitchen, a kitchen can support more cooks (up to three per kitchen building.)

As your cook levels up, they'll have access to more advanced trade, giving you a chance to put those taxes back in the local economy!
If you already have Cooks and Chefs in your village thanks to the excellent Chef's Delight, I've got good and bad news: the good news is that they can both coexist as far as the structures go, but the bad news is that the cook and chef professions clash with Townstead, so you will have to pick one of them. By default, Townstead will disable the Cook and Chef profession in favour of Townstead's Cook. If you prefer Chef's Delight's professions, you can toggle it back on in the Townstead Mod Config, under Server Settings, and this will disable Townstead's cook profession.
Speaking of settings, the constant laughter and crying of the villagers did bring life to the village but it got a bit repetitive, so by default, Townstead disables them. If you want to hear their cries of pain or joy again though, you can re-enable it under Mod Config, Client Settings, and in Mood options.
Last but not least, the Farmer profession got some upgrades to support the new crops in Farmer's Delight, including harvesting tomatoes, and setting up farm plots for rice and tomatoes. Give them a knife, and they will use it to harvest straw from grassy plants.
Spot anything weird, annoying, or something you'd like to see? Leave a comment, I'd love to hear from you!
Summary
Compatibility: Farmer's Delight
- Farmers can use knives to harvest straw from grassy plants
- Farmers support new crops, and can harvest tomatoes and rice
- Tiered kitchen building using items from Farmer's Delight
- New cook profession, with trades related to Farmer's Delight
- The cook AI is, pardon the pun, a bit half-baked and I hope to improve it. Please report any issues in the comments!
- If using Chef's Delight, the cook and chef professions will be disabled to prevent conflits, but the rest of the mod will be integrated. If you want to restore the cook and chef professions, you can instead set it to use the Chef's Delight professions, but none of the Townstead logic will apply
Bug Fixes
- Fix butcher loading/unloading behaviour that led to them putting finished cooks in the input
- Farmers can now harvest melons and pumpkins from vanilla Minecraft
- Hunger widget no longer overlaps last interaction analysis (thank you Queenbean01 for reporting the bug!)
