๐ Tidebound: Living Seas
Bring your oceans to life.
Tidebound: Living Seas is a companion expansion for Tidebound, adding animated marine wildlife, natural ocean populations, useful drops, and wearable shell armor. Explore waters filled with whale pods, shrimp schools, seals, and creatures living along the seabed—from open oceans to the waters surrounding merkingdoms.
๐ Discover New Marine Wildlife
Meet seven kinds of sea life, each with its own model and animations:
- ๐ Whales — Large ocean creatures with animated tails, fins, and flukes. Naturally spawned whales form small pods in deep, clear water.
- ๐ฆญ Seals — Spotted gray seals with whiskers, expressive eyes, jointed flippers, swimming movements, breathing, and blinking.
- ๐ฆ Shrimp — Small, banded crustaceans with curved bodies, long antennae, walking legs, swimmeret paddles, and spreading tail fans.
- ๐ฆ Lobsters — Detailed crustaceans with segmented tails, jointed legs, sensing antennae, and unequal claws with moving pincers.
- ๐ Conches — Living sea snails with ridged, tapered shells, flared pink openings, visible feet, eye stalks, and gently moving feelers.
- ๐ฆช Clams — Ribbed shells that smoothly open and close, revealing their interior and pearl.
- โญ Starfish — Animated seabed creatures with articulated arms and crawling movement.
๐ Oceans That Feel More Alive
Wildlife naturally spawns in suitable ocean habitats. Temperature, depth, seabed material, and available space help determine where creatures appear.
You can encounter:
- ๐ Whale pods: Groups of 2–3.
- ๐ฆ Shrimp schools: Groups of 5–9.
- ๐ฆญ Seal groups: Groups of 2–4.
- โญ Starfish clusters: Groups of 3–5.
- ๐ฆช Clam beds: Groups of 2–4.
- ๐ Conch clusters: Groups of 2–3.
- ๐ฆ Lobsters: Singles or pairs.
Whales, shrimp, and seals use leader-following behavior to travel in loose groups. Actual group sizes may be smaller when habitat conditions, obstacles, or population limits prevent additional creatures from spawning.
๐ฐ Merkingdom wildlife also brings sea life to suitable areas around Tidebound’s kingdoms. Population budgets help prevent endless spawning and overcrowding.
๐จ Detailed Models & Animations
Living Seas adds more character to underwater encounters through creature-specific movement:
- ๐ฆ Shrimp: Coordinated paddle movement, abdomen flexing, walking legs, tail-fan motion, and idle antenna sweeps.
- ๐ฆ Lobsters: Alternating leg movement, opening pincers, antenna sway, and stronger tail movement while swimming.
- ๐ฆญ Seals: Rear-flipper propulsion, front-flipper steering, body sway, gentle breathing, and brief eye blinks.
- ๐ Conches: Pulsing feet, subtle shell rocking, breathing, and independent eye-stalk and feeler movement.
- ๐ฆช Clams: Smooth opening and closing with resting stages between movements.
Bottom-dwelling creatures settle toward the seabed, while swimming creatures explore the surrounding water.
๐ Collect Useful Ocean Resources
Discover shells and materials with uses beyond decoration:
- ๐ Seashells: Scallop shells, conch shells, whelk shells, spiral shells, and sand dollars.
- ๐ Marine materials: Sea pearls, shell fragments, chitin, and star fragments.
- ๐ค Seafood: Raw and cooked shrimp, lobster, clam, and conch.
- ๐ฅฃ Seafood Stew: Combine cooked seafood, dried kelp, and a bowl into a hearty meal.
- ๐ซง Ocean Essence: A resource obtained through whale interactions.
- ๐งช Tide Tonic: A drink that grants temporary water breathing.
- ๐ฟ Restorative Paste: A consumable that grants temporary regeneration.
๐ค Interact With Sea Life
Some resources can be collected through direct interactions:
- ๐ฆช Brush an open clam to collect a sea pearl when it is ready.
- ๐ Use an empty glass bottle on a whale to collect ocean essence.
- ๐ฆญ Feed a seal raw cod or salmon to receive a shell fragment.
These interactions have cooldowns, giving creatures time to recover between collections.
๐ Wearable Shell Bras
Craft ocean-themed chest armor designed to accompany Tidebound’s mermaid tails.
Each bra features two ribbed clam-shell cups, connected by green seaweed straps and small leaves. The armor uses the normal chest slot and follows the player’s torso pose.
Choose from six styles:
- ๐ Clam — Classic sandy-gold shells.
- ๐ค Pearl — Ivory shells with soft pink accents and pearl beads.
- ๐ชธ Coral — Warm pink shells with red-toned ribs.
- โ๏ธ Frostveil — Icy blue shells, teal vines, and pearl accents.
- ๐ Abyssal — Violet shells with darker ribs.
- ๐ฟ Kelp — Olive shells, deep green vines, and larger leaves.
๐ก๏ธ Armor Stats
All six styles provide:
- 5 armor points — Equivalent to a gold chestplate.
- 240 durability — Equivalent to an iron chestplate.
- Armor enchantment support.
- Anvil repairs using scallop shells.
๐ ๏ธ Crafting
Craft the original Clam Shell Bra using 2 scallop shells and 3 kelp:
K · K
S · S
· K ·
K = Kelp · S = Scallop Shell · · = Empty slot
The additional variants use shapeless recipes:
| Variant | Ingredients |
|---|---|
| ๐ค Pearl | 2 scallop shells + 3 kelp + white dye + sea pearl |
| ๐ชธ Coral | 2 scallop shells + 3 kelp + pink dye + red dye |
| โ๏ธ Frostveil | 2 scallop shells + 3 kelp + light blue dye + sea pearl |
| ๐ Abyssal | 2 scallop shells + 3 kelp + purple dye + ocean essence |
| ๐ฟ Kelp | 2 scallop shells + 4 kelp + green dye |
๐ฆ Requirements & Installation
Tidebound is required. Living Seas runs alongside the main mod as a separate expansion.
The current build targets:
- ๐ฎ Minecraft: 26.2
- โ๏ธ Loader: NeoForge 26.2.0.88
- โ Java: 25
Place both Tidebound and Living Seas in your mods folder. When updating, remove the previous Living Seas JAR and restart the game. Multiplayer servers and their clients should use matching versions.
๐ Existing worlds are supported: suitable loaded ocean regions can receive new wildlife without resetting the world.
๐ง Development Status
Living Seas is actively being developed. Compilation, model, animation, habitat, and population-budget may change during updates.
๐ผ๏ธ Promotional artwork illustrates the expansion’s theme; it is not an in-game screenshot.
