Thermal Tweaks – Dynamic Temperature Survival

Thermal Tweaks introduces a lightweight but meaningful temperature system to Minecraft survival. Your body temperature ranges from −20 °C to 50 °C and reacts to biome climate, weather, wetness, sunlight, shade, armor, consumables,...

❄️ Thermal Tweaks 1.1 — Snowstorms, Wind & Winter Life

✨ Highlights

  • Snowstorms:
Blue-tinted world, thicker fog, a snowflake HUD badge, drifting particle effects, and temperature penalties that scale with storm intensity.

  • Wind System:
Synced wind direction and strength, displayed via HUD arrow + km/h readout.
Optional gentle push effect during strong gusts.

  • Icicles:
Slim half-block icicles that grow under overhangs during storms and melt near heat/light.
Includes a placeable block and item.

  • Temperature Persistence:
Your body temperature now saves and reloads, syncing on login and when changing dimensions.

⛄ Gameplay

  • Snow Accumulation:
Snow piles form naturally and build leeward depending on wind direction.
Snow does not accumulate under roofs, leaves, or other cover.

  • Melting & Freezing:
    Snow melts near heat sources.
Exposed water surfaces freeze during storms in cold biomes.

  • Footprints:
Temporary snow indentations appear as you walk; they auto-restore or melt over time.

  • Damage Scaling:
Cold/heat damage scales dynamically based on how far your temperature is from safe thresholds.

🐺 Mobs & World Behavior

  • Strays in Storms:
Skeletons convert into Strays during blizzards in cold biomes.

  • Animals:

    • Wolves & foxes seek campfires

    • Passive animals huddle together

    • Bees retreat to hives

    • Fish swim deeper in cold weather

    • Hostile mobs have reduced follow range during storms

  • Villagers:
Villager sheltering AI is now optional (off by default for performance).
If enabled, it’s heavily throttled to reduce lag.

🧊 Items & Armor

  • Iced Tea: Instantly cools body temperature.

  • Thermometer: Shows ambient and body °C; helpful for balancing.

  • Fur Armor & Desert Robes: Configurable insulation and heat mitigation.
(Defaults reuse leather visuals until you add textures.)

💬 Commands

  • /snowstorm start | stop | status — control storms for testing & screenshots

  • /wind set <kmh> — manually set wind speed (Creative/OP only)

  • HUD Additions:

    • Temperature bar with notches at −10, 0, 35, 50°C

    • Snowflake badge during storms

    • Wind direction arrow + km/h speed

⚙️ Performance & Config

  • Per-tick storm budget with dynamic backpressure for smooth singleplayer performance.

  • Feature toggles for:

    • Snow accumulation

    • Melting & freezing

    • Footprints

    • Mob behaviors

    • Villager sheltering

  • VisualsAlwaysOnDuringStorm (ON by default): Ensures blizzard presentation even under cover; turn OFF for strict outdoors-only visuals.

  • Datapack tags:

    • heat_sources

    • cold_sources

    • icicle_supports

📌 Notes

  • Default configs are tuned for singleplayer with low performance spikes.
Adjust settings in thermaltweaks-common.toml if needed.

  • Icicles currently use a simple cross/ice model—replace with your own when ready.

Enjoy the winter!
