The Veil Below 1.0.0 — Release

The first full release of The Veil Below is here.

Version 1.0.0 brings together the complete psychological and cosmic horror experience, including player-specific scares, stalking entities, reality deception, The Hollow dimension, persistent world corruption, multiplayer paranoia, and extensive accessibility and safety controls.

Major Features

The Watcher

  • Distant stalking entity that observes players without directly attacking.

  • Context-aware spawning and disappearance behavior.

  • Designed around paranoia rather than combat.

The Gazer

  • Rare distant humanoid encounter.

  • Directly looking at The Gazer can trigger an instant full-screen jumpscare.

  • Player-specific multiplayer presentation.

  • Improved full-screen jumpscare rendering.

  • Fixed excessive jumpscare zoom/cropping.

  • Improved HUD coverage during jumpscares.

  • Added a short temporary ESC lock during jumpscares to prevent accidental pause-menu interruption.

Null

  • Added Null Sessions.

  • Fake Null joined the game and Null left the game messages.

  • Chat-based anger/provocation system.

  • Random retaliation targeting.

  • Target-only behind-you appearances.

  • Unique black-and-white Null jumpscare.

  • Improved Null eye rendering from different viewing angles.

  • Multiplayer-safe target isolation.

  • Added temporary ESC lock during Null jumpscares.

Friend Anomalies

Multiplayer players may temporarily see other players incorrectly.

Includes:

  • Impossible Head Turn

  • Impossible Tracking

  • Black Face

  • Frozen Friend

  • Rare Null-like visual corruption

These effects remain observer-specific and do not modify the real player state.

The Visitor

  • House-aware psychological horror event.

  • Door knocking and lock/handle sounds after remaining inside too long.

  • Hidden exposure consequences for relying on safety.

  • No physical attacker or door destruction.

The Fault

  • Reality corruption event with:

    • Screen distortion

    • Camera effects

    • Ominous audio

    • Optional native Windows horror dialog

  • Native Windows dialogs now require explicit player permission.

  • Safe in-game fallback when native dialogs are disabled or unavailable.

The Hollow

  • Added The Hollow entity.

  • Approaching it may transport the player into The Hollow Dimension.

  • Overworld-like but corrupted environment.

  • Repeated stalking encounters throughout the visit.

  • The Hollow gradually appears closer over time.

  • Exit portal appears after the player has remained trapped long enough.

  • Safe return to the Overworld.

  • Multiplayer-safe player-specific entry handling.

The Bleeding World

Added a persistent world corruption system.

Features:

  • Increased Veil activity.

  • Storm effects remain regional instead of changing the entire Overworld.

Reality Deception

Added two new psychological deception systems.

False Chat

  • Displays fake chat messages only to the targeted player.

  • Can imitate an online friend in multiplayer.

  • At high exposure, messages may appear to come from the player's own username.

  • Messages are visual illusions and are not sent through real Minecraft chat.

False Dawn

  • Makes a targeted player temporarily see morning while the world is still actually at night.

  • Real server time does not change.

  • Mob behavior and game rules continue using the real nighttime state.

  • Other players continue seeing the real night.

  • The illusion suddenly returns to normal after a short period.
