Thaumaturge License
Copyright (c) 2026 Leclowndu93150. All rights reserved.
Portions copyright (c) 2026 Saereth, DeadSix, Reclipse and Iglee42, as set out
in section 6.
SUMMARY (not part of the license)
The source is public so you can read it, learn from it, fork it on GitHub, and
contribute to it. What you may not do is publish it: no uploading this mod or a
modified version of it to CurseForge, Modrinth, or anywhere else, and no
distributing builds of it. If the author disappears for a year, the license
converts to MIT so the project can be continued by someone else.
The project, its name, and its branding belong to the author. Contributors keep
the copyright in the code they wrote and may reuse it in their own work, but
contributing does not give anyone the right to publish this mod or to pull
their code back out of it.
1. DEFINITIONS
1.1 "Software" means the source code, configuration, and build scripts in the
Canonical Repository, and any binary built from them.
1.2 "Author" means Leclowndu93150, reachable at the GitHub account
github.com/Leclowndu93150 and the Discord account Leclowndu93150.
1.3 "Canonical Repository" means https://github.com/Leclowndu93150/Thaumaturge
or a successor repository designated by the Author.
1.4 "You" means any person or entity exercising the permissions in section 2.
1.5 "Publish" means to make the Software, a modified version of it, or a binary
built from it, available to any third party, including uploading it to a mod
distribution platform, hosting it for download, bundling it in a modpack, or
sending it to another person.
1.6 "Project" means the Thaumaturge name, logo, mod id, and branding, the
Software taken as a whole, including the selection and arrangement of its
parts, and every part of the Software that is not a Contribution.
1.7 "Contribution" means code or other material written by a Contributor and
merged into the Canonical Repository.
1.8 "Contributor" means a person, other than the Author, whose Contribution has
been merged into the Canonical Repository.
2. PERMISSIONS
Subject to section 3, You may:
2.1 View, read, and study the Software.
2.2 Fork the Canonical Repository on GitHub, and create branches and pull
requests against it.
2.3 Modify the Software for Your own use.
2.4 Build the Software and run the result yourself, including on a server You
operate, whether or not other people connect to that server.
2.5 Quote short excerpts of the source code for the purpose of discussion,
review, bug reporting, or teaching.
3. RESTRICTIONS
3.1 You may not Publish the Software or any modified version of it, in source or
binary form, without prior written permission from the Author. This includes
but is not limited to CurseForge, Modrinth, GitHub Releases on a fork,
Discord servers, file hosts, and modpacks.
3.2 You may not sell the Software, charge for access to it, or place it behind
advertising, link shorteners, or any other revenue mechanism.
3.3 You may not release a competing or continued version of this mod under this
or any other name while this license is in force and section 4 has not been
triggered.
3.4 You may not remove or alter this license, the copyright notices, or the
authorship metadata in the Software.
3.5 Forks permitted under section 2.2 exist for reading, contribution, and
personal modification. Publishing from a fork is still Publishing and is
governed by section 3.1.
4. DORMANCY AND AUTOMATIC RELICENSING
The Author intends this project to survive the Author. This section converts the
license automatically if the Author becomes inactive or unreachable.
4.1 Trigger. This section is triggered when either condition is met:
(a) No commit authored by the Author has been pushed to the Canonical
Repository for 365 consecutive days; or
(b) The Author has failed to respond within 90 days to a good-faith contact
attempt made through BOTH of the following: a message to the Discord
account named in section 1.2, and a public issue opened in the Canonical
Repository.
4.2 Notice and cure. Before relying on this section, You must open a public
issue in the Canonical Repository titled "Dormancy notice" stating which
condition You believe is met, and wait 30 days. If the Author responds in
that window, or pushes a commit in that window, this section is not
triggered and both clocks reset.
4.3 Effect. Once triggered and the cure period has passed without response, this
license converts irrevocably, for everyone, to the MIT License, with the
copyright notice "Copyright (c) 2026 Leclowndu93150, Saereth, DeadSix,
Reclipse and Iglee42". From that moment sections 3.1 through 3.3 no longer
apply.
4.4 Scope. The conversion in section 4.3 applies to the Project and to every
Contribution licensed to the Author under section 6. It does not and cannot
grant rights in the material described in section 5.
4.5 Reset. Any commit pushed by the Author to the Canonical Repository restarts
the period in section 4.1(a).
5. THIRD-PARTY MATERIAL
5.1 Portions of the Software, including certain textures, sounds, and text
content, derive from works whose rights are held by third parties. Those
portions are not the Author's to license, are not covered by the permissions
in section 2, and are unaffected by section 4.
5.2 Nothing in this license grants You any right in that third-party material.
If You intend to use, reproduce, or redistribute any part of it, it is Your
responsibility to obtain permission from the party that holds those rights.
5.3 This license applies to the Project and to Contributions licensed to the
Author under section 6.
6. OWNERSHIP AND CONTRIBUTIONS
6.1 Ownership. The Author owns the Project. Each Contributor keeps the copyright
in their own Contributions.
6.2 License to the Author. By submitting a pull request or patch to the
Canonical Repository, You grant the Author a perpetual, worldwide,
irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, modify, distribute,
sublicense, and relicense Your Contribution as part of the Software or any
later version of it, including under the conversion described in section 4.
This license cannot be withdrawn, and it does not require the Author to
remove a Contribution that has already been merged.
6.3 Your own code. You may use, publish, and license Your own Contributions
anywhere else, under any terms You choose, for example in another mod or a
library. This covers only the code You wrote. It does not let You Publish
the Software, a modified version of it, or a substantial part of the Project
together with Your Contribution.
6.4 No extra rights. Being a Contributor gives You no rights in the Project or
in other people's Contributions beyond those section 2 gives everyone. In
particular, You may not Publish the Software, use the Thaumaturge name,
logo, or branding for another release, or present Yourself as an owner of
the Project. You may describe Yourself as a contributor to Thaumaturge.
6.5 Credit. The Author will keep crediting each Contributor in the copyright
notice, or in a credits file in the Canonical Repository, for as long as
their Contributions remain in the Software.
7. DISCLAIMER
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR
IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS
FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHOR OR
CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN
ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF, OR IN CONNECTION
WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.
8. GENERAL
8.1 Permission beyond this license may be requested from the Author at the
contacts in section 1.2. Permission granted for one case is not permission
for any other.
8.2 If any provision of this license is held unenforceable, the remaining
provisions remain in force.
8.3 The Author may release the Software under different terms at any time.
