What's new

[1.3.0] - 2026-10-10

New

  • Vanilla gear can become Tensura gear - or not, your choice. A new option (on by default) controls whether vanilla gear evolves into Tensura materials. Turn it off and vanilla gear still levels up and evolves within vanilla tiers, keeping its EP, name and traits.
  • Turning an evolution path off no longer wipes your progress. If a path like Armor or Bows is switched off, that gear's EP is paused and picks up exactly where it left off when the path is switched back on.
  • Every player can use /gearevolution awaken when the server has Awakening turned on. The other /gearevolution commands stay admin-only.
  • A friendlier config screen. Every option now has a plain-language name and a tooltip that explains what it does and shows its default. Balance preset, Branch choice and Awakening growth are now click-to-cycle buttons instead of text boxes.

Better on servers

  • Mining no longer stalls or restarts while your tool is gaining EP. This mostly hit players on servers with some lag.
  • Lighter on busy servers. Kill-heavy setups like mob farms now do far less background work per player.
  • No more confusing config screen on servers. When you're on someone else's server, the config screen tells you the server owner controls gameplay settings, so you're not left wondering why a change did nothing.
  • Correct tooltips on servers. Gear shows the server's real next evolution and EP needed, even when your own settings differ from the server's.

Bug fixes

  • Gear no longer disappears when it evolves. If an item's next form came from a mod you don't have installed (for example a Neo Otherworld backpack without Neo Otherworld), it used to vanish - along with a backpack's contents - the moment it evolved. It now simply stays at its current tier.
  • Backpacks never lose access to items. Sophisticated Backpacks and Traveler's Backpacks no longer shrink their slot count, so nothing can get stuck in a hidden slot.
  • Bonus kill EP from places and time of day now works properly. It used to add almost nothing.
  • Tensura tools evolve from mining again when a balance preset or "EP needed to evolve" setting other than 1.0 is used.
  • Gear keeps its normal stats. Armor, toughness, knockback resistance, weapon damage and attack speed are no longer lost when EP or trait bonuses are added or removed, and evolved gear keeps its name and enchantments.
  • Armor bonuses stay on the right piece. Taking off one armor piece no longer removes bonuses from another.
  • Awakening bonuses are kept through saving, reloading and config changes, without stacking up by accident.
  • Evolution percentages stay visible on Tensura mining tools after they evolve from vanilla tools.
  • Custom traits, armor sets, goals and location bonuses from datapacks now load reliably.
  • A future update to Tensura: Neo Otherworld can no longer crash the game because of this mod.

For modpack and server owners

  • Requires NeoForge 21.1.22 or newer. Older versions now get a clear "update NeoForge" message instead of a crash.
  • Tested with Architectury 13.0.11 and Fabric Loader 0.19.5. Architectury 13.0.8+ and Fabric Loader 0.17.0+ still work.
  • Tested with the latest 1.21.1 versions of Traveler's Backpack, Sophisticated Backpacks, Simply Swords, Ice and Fire CE and Curios.
  • Gameplay settings live in the server's config/gearevolution-common file and apply to everyone on the server.
