Team Radio is an addon for Simple Voice Chat that adds team-based radios. Players talk to their teammates over noisy, lo-fi radio channels, and every transmission ends with a beep.
Press Z to open the radio menu and pick a channel, or switch the radio off. Hold R to transmit. Your voice goes only to your team on your channel, and nearby players don't hear you talk normally while you transmit (this can be changed in the config). Both keys can be rebound under Options, Controls, Team Radio.
Radios are tied to two scoreboard teams, lag1 and lag2 by default. Each team has its own channels, so one team can never tune into the other team's radio. Players who are not in either team can't use the radio, and if a player is moved to another team, their radio switches off automatically.
The audio is band-limited and distorted, with hiss, crackle and occasional signal dropouts, so it is never perfectly clear. A short beep plays to everyone on the channel when you release push-to-talk. A small HUD indicator shows your current team and channel and turns red while you transmit. Radio audio also gets its own Radio volume slider in Simple Voice Chat.
Requirements: Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge, Simple Voice Chat for Forge 1.20.1, and this mod, all installed on both the server and the clients.
Setup: as an operator, create the teams with the vanilla commands /team add lag1, /team add lag2, /team join lag1 (player) and /team join lag2 (player).
Configuration is in config/teamradio-common.toml. You can change the team names, the number of radios per team (1 to 8, default 3), the noise level (0 to 1, default 0.6) and whether nearby players hear your normal voice while you transmit.
Note: the radio takes over your microphone stream while you hold push-to-talk, so it works best with Simple Voice Chat set to voice activation. If you use Simple Voice Chat's own push-to-talk, hold both its key and the radio key.
