SyncMod
Join a modded server without hunting for mods.
SyncMod keeps your game's mods in line with the server you want to join. Instead of downloading a long list of files by hand, you click one button and SyncMod does it for you.
Why use it?
For players
- No more "missing mods" errors followed by a long list to download manually
- You see exactly what will be downloaded, and you decide
- Every file is checked before it is installed
For server owners
- Players always get the same mods as your server
- No modpack to maintain and no website to host
- Nothing to open on your network: it works on the same port as your game
How it works
- You put SyncMod on your server and on each player's game, once.
- A player joins the server.
- If some mods are missing or out of date, a screen lists them.
- The player clicks Download. SyncMod downloads the files straight from the server and checks them.
- When it's done, the game asks to restart. After the restart, the player joins normally.
Getting started
Server owners
- Add SyncMod to your server's
mods/folder. - Start the server. Its log should say that files are being shared.
- Tell your players to install SyncMod, then join your server.
That's it. Everything in your server's mods/ folder is shared with players. If some files are only meant for the server, you can exclude them in the configuration file.
Players
- Add SyncMod to your game's
mods/folder. - Join the server from the Multiplayer list.
- Follow the screen: check the list, click Download, then restart the game when asked.
Good to know
- Install it once by hand. SyncMod can't download itself: each player needs it before their first visit.
- Join from the Multiplayer list. Launching straight into a server from a launcher shortcut can prevent SyncMod from knowing where to connect.
- Only the server's files are shared. If a mod is only used on the client side, SyncMod can't provide it.
- Behind a proxy or tunnel? Some hosting services only pass the game's traffic. In that case, set a separate port in the server configuration.
- A restart is always needed. Minecraft can't load new mods while it's running.
Safety
- You always confirm before anything is downloaded.
- Every file is verified before it is installed.
- Files are only saved in your
mods/folder. - Downloads come from the server you are joining, or from a short list of trusted websites that you can edit.
As with any modded server, joining one means trusting its owner for the mods it asks you to install. Only join servers you trust.
