Description
Structure Compass
A late-game, expensive compass that finally answers "where is the nearest village / stronghold / trial chamber?" without /locate, cartographer maps or hours of wandering. Right-click it and it shows you the nearest structure of every type in a list and on a radar. Pick one, and the needle stops pointing at your world spawn and points at that structure instead.
It is a small, focused mod: one new item, no new blocks, no world generation changes, no config files. Structures stay exactly where vanilla generated them.
Features
- One item, the Structure Compass. Epic rarity, stacks to 1. It looks like a golden compass with a purple face and a pink needle.
- Scans for every structure type at once. Right-click and the game searches for the closest villages, strongholds, mineshafts, ocean monuments, woodland mansions, ancient cities, trial chambers, desert/jungle temples, pillager outposts, shipwrecks, buried treasure, ruined portals, trail ruins, igloos, swamp huts, abandoned camps and more. In the Nether and the End it finds fortresses, bastions, Nether fossils and End cities. It searches the dimension you are standing in.
- Works with structures from other mods. It reads the game's structure registry, so modded structures show up automatically with a readable name.
- A sorted list with live distances. Each row shows an icon, the structure name, its X/Z coordinates, the distance in blocks and a small arrow that rotates as you turn around. Results appear one by one while the search is running, with a progress bar.
- A radar. All found structures are plotted around you, colour-coded by kind (villages, fortresses, dangerous structures, treasure...). "Up" is wherever you are looking and a red N shows north. Hover a row to highlight its dot.
- Click to track. Click any row and the compass needle points at it. The target is saved in the item, so you can close the menu, put the compass away and come back later. The item tooltip shows what it is tracking.
- Action-bar guide. While you hold the compass, the bar above your hotbar shows an arrow, the structure name and the remaining distance. When you arrive, it tells you that you are there.
- Update and Variants buttons. "Update" searches again from where you are now. "Variants" switches between showing only the nearest of each family (one "Village", one "Mineshaft", one "Ruined Portal"...) or every biome variant (taiga village, savanna village, ...).
- Spanish and English. The interface and the tooltip are available in both languages; structure names inside the list are shown in Spanish.
How it changes your game
Structure hunting in vanilla means exploring blindly, trading with cartographers or running /locate (which needs cheats). With this mod it becomes a mid-to-late-game goal and a tool:
- New world, want a Trial Chamber for the keys? Craft the compass, right-click, and see "Trial Chambers - 135 m" next to the nearest village, mineshaft and ruined portal, all in one view. Click it and walk.
- Planning a trip? The radar tells you in one glance which direction has the most structures, so you can plan a route that passes a village, a stronghold and an ocean monument.
- Playing with friends? Everyone with a compass can track a different structure, so the group can split up and each head to a different target.
- Looking for the End portal? Select "Underground Stronghold" and the needle leads you there.
Because it is expensive, it is not a day-one shortcut: you need Netherite and Eyes of Ender first.
Recipe
Diamond Eye of Ender Diamond Netherite Compass Netherite Diamond Eye of Ender Diamond
(Netherite = Netherite Ingot.) The recipe unlocks when you have a regular compass in your inventory. The item is also in the Creative menu, Tools & Utilities tab.
Good to know
- Searching is heavy for the game, because it has to work out where structures would generate before they exist. The first search can take several seconds and you may notice some lag in the world; later searches near the same place are faster and the results are reused if you have moved less than about 96 blocks.
- The needle only points to structures in your current dimension. If the tracked structure is in another dimension, the needle spins (like a vanilla lodestone compass) and the action bar tells you to search again.
- Monster rooms ("dungeons" with a spawner) are not structures for the game, so they cannot be located. Everything the game treats as a structure can.
- The search uses the vanilla structure placement, so results are always correct for your world seed. It does not reveal anything that cannot be found with
/locate.
Requirements
- Minecraft 26.3, Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or newer, Java 25.
- Fabric API (required).
- Install it on the client and on the server (or the host of a LAN world). Every player needs the mod to see the list.
