Built for Dungeon Train — usable by any mod. Stream Detect has no dependency on Dungeon Train.
Made for streamers
When you're streaming, a mod can do better than treat you like every other player. Stream Detect tells other mods one thing: OBS Studio or Streamlabs is open. What they do with that is up to them. For example, they can:
- point you to a place to share your stream or clip
- surface streamer-friendly options, such as hiding info you might not want on screen
- adjust prompts and pop-ups so they read well on camera
Dungeon Train uses it to show a Share stream! tab on its Videos button, so streamers can add their channel to the in-game community videos page.
What it looks at, and what it doesn't
- It only checks for these exact program names:
obs64.exe,obs32.exe,obs(macOS / Linux),Streamlabs OBS.exe,Streamlabs Desktop.exe. - It knows only that the program is open, not whether you are recording or live.
- No command lines, window titles, files, registry, network access or admin rights.
- The answer never leaves your PC. The only trace is one line in the game log.
- It checks once per game session, only when another mod asks.
Setup
Nothing to configure. Install it alongside a mod that uses it. Client-side only; servers don't need it.
For mod developers
Tailor your mod for streamers with one call:
games.brennan.streamdetect.api.StreamDetect.detectNow()returns the matched program name, ornull. Call it off the render thread; the result is cached after the first call.hasResult()andisRunningNow()are cheap reads for render code.
Declare Stream Detect as an optional dependency and guard calls with your loader's "is mod loaded" check. Launch with -Dstreamdetect.test=obs64.exe to test your streamer UI without OBS running.
Compatibility
Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1. No mixins, items, blocks, commands or config.
