Update 1.5.4

Minecraft 1.20.1 · Forge. Requires GeckoLib 4.4 or newer — install it separately.

The biggest update since 1.5. It contains everything since 1.5.1: something has started keeping notes on you, something else has started listening, a companion shaderpack sees what your mind is doing, and 50 bugs are gone.

Sanity Diary

A new book in the starting kit (or craft one: book, ink sac and spider eye). It writes down what you went through by itself, dated with the in-game day and time and where you were.

The diary remembers. The first time you meet something, it leaves you a note on how to survive it. It keeps count of what you have seen, how many days you lasted and how many times you died. Read it when you are lost.

It learns where you hide

The stalker now remembers. Climb a tower, lock yourself in the house, jump into the water or go underground when it hunts you, and it takes note. Do it again, and it may already be waiting there.

The friend who wasn't there

On a server with friends, low sanity can bring one of them to you.

Radio Receiver

A new craftable block with its own animated model. Right click to switch it on and it comes alive: the needle wanders across the glowing dial, the speaker breathes, the static hisses softly.

Abandoned camps

Rarely, far apart, you may come across a camp someone left behind: an old canvas tent, a campfire that is sometimes still burning, two logs to sit on. Some of them still have something waiting. The camper's log may tell you more than you want to know.

False save

When your sanity drops low enough, the game saves. You wake up at home, except it isn't.

Stalker Entity Shaders

A companion shaderpack, released as its own project: Stalker Entity Shaders. Soft moonlit shadows, black caves, small flickering torches, its own clouds, stars and a round moon, ground mist, dark water, wet nights. It works with any world, but with this mod and Oculus installed the mod tells it what is happening to you: your sanity drains the colour and narrows your sight, the moon changes as your mind goes, the fog closes in when something hunts you, and every world of the mod gets its own look.

The shaderpack is optional. Without Oculus the mod works exactly as before.

Scares no longer pile up

Ambient scares and big events used to land on top of each other and turn into noise. Now a big event waits its turn, and nothing else starts while it is running.

No more hiding on towers

Pillaring up out of reach at low sanity no longer makes the stalker give up and vanish. It has other plans now (anything that breaks blocks still respects mobGriefing). Houses with stairs don't count: if the stalker can walk up, it walks.

Bedrock.Error, rebuilt

The deleted world got darker and stranger. The further you walk from where you woke up, the less of it is left. Not every tower survived, and some things exist twice. Somewhere near where you arrive, someone left their logbooks behind. And when a siren stops, it is not always over.

Books and notes

Every reader now powers on like an old monitor and types its pages out letter by letter. Click the page or press Space to read it at once; the arrow keys turn pages. Lines get redacted. Some words refuse to stay still.

The lore notes were rewritten and grew a third page each. The patient's diary was rewritten in English and Russian.

Menus

The title is larger, and the title screen has a Mods button again. Sliders, options lists and the world creation screen now match the rest of the horror menus.

Performance

Stalkers and other creatures no longer search for a new path every single tick. Lamps in Bedrock.Error blink on your screen instead of on the server, so it no longer floods players with block updates. Hearts and hunger draw several times fewer shapes per frame. Flickering lights only flicker near you, and distant lamps stop blinking once they are lost in the fog, so Bedrock.Error keeps its frame rate.

50 bugs fixed

1. Being kicked from a server with the custom menus on trapped you: Cancel on the server list looped between the server list and the disconnect screen.
2. Menus wrapped by the mod did not always return to the screen they were opened from.
3. F3+Esc no longer paused the game without a menu.
4. The music slider in Music & Sounds was reset to zero every time a menu opened.
5. Dedicated servers crashed on startup because of the lore notes, the compass manual and the medical book.
6. Hallucinated sounds (phantom footsteps, stone breaking, wrong sounds) were heard by everyone nearby, not only by the player losing their mind.
7. Horror mobs ignored the mobGriefing gamerule.
8. Siren events and some other events reset the world's day counter.
9. The game could crash while saving some of the mod's worlds.
10. Some hallucinations stayed in the world forever after a relog.
11. Some low-sanity events and world decay deleted chests, furnaces and bedrock.
12. The clone chopped log cabins instead of real trees.
13. Tamed animals lost their name tags.
14. Labyrinth exits could appear inside the start room.
15. Stalker VHS static and screen warp did not work in the Overworld.
16. Some creatures failed to spawn on most terrain.
17. Stalkers appeared inside hills at negative coordinates.
18. One of the creatures forgot its anger after a relog.
19. The same creature went after creative and spectator players.
20. /kill did not work on every mod entity.
21. The death screen did not show the real cause of death.
22. Hardcore deaths did not show the hardcore screen.
23. One of the kick screens appeared only in development, not in the CurseForge build.
24. Being kicked out of a singleplayer world sent you to the multiplayer server list. The button now says Back to Title Screen and does exactly that.
25. Stalkers summoned with NoAI (statues for maps and screenshots) vanished after three seconds.
26. A creature could stay trapped in a boat. It now smashes its way out; the boat drops as an item and chest boats drop their contents.
27. Pillaring up made the stalker give up and vanish (see above).
28. Entering Bedrock.Error froze the server while the world generated.
29. Bedrock.Error kept hundreds of chunks around the Overworld spawn loaded even when nobody was inside, slowing down every world save.
30. After rejoining, Bedrock.Error trails and houses no longer lined up with the ones generated before.
31. Whole Bedrock.Error chunks next to a fallen tree were left without trees and decorations.
32. Wall torches in Bedrock.Error ruins could float with nothing behind them.
33. Bedrock.Error world generation threads could change the world plan at the same time.
34. It rained in the labyrinth whenever it rained in the Overworld. Fixed for labyrinths built by older versions too.
35. A time glitch could leave the clock shifted if you logged out or changed dimension at the wrong moment.
36. Up to ten seconds of world-decay progress were lost on every logout.
37. An emergency alert was heard by every player nearby; now only the player it was meant for hears it.
38. Ambient scare sounds and big events could play over each other (see above).
39. Sliders (field of view, volume, brightness...) were still vanilla grey in the horror menus.
40. Options lists (music and sounds, controls...) showed the vanilla dirt background.
41. The world creation screen kept the dirt background.
42. Some button labels were drawn twice and looked bold or blurry.
43. The custom title screen had no Mods button, so other mods' settings could only be reached by turning the custom menus off.
44. The whisper on the title screen played again every time you came back to it from the options, the world list or a world. It now plays once per game launch.
45. One of the trips between worlds could leave you stranded in the void when it ended. You now go home.
46. After one of the kicks you came back at the world spawn instead of where you were before.
47. Hallucinations left behind (you walked away or changed dimension) stood there forever. They now vanish on their own.
48. Night knocks, whispers and some other sounds were heard by everyone nearby. Only the player who is losing it hears them now.
49. Some low-sanity events and world decay ignored mobGriefing. With mobGriefing off they now leave your blocks alone.
50.  For server admins: one of the /hmdebug commands froze the server for several seconds.
