Spells and Spellcrafting 2.12.61 — release notes
Rolls up 2.12.60 and 2.12.61. Companion release to Zombie Village 4.57.317 — the two were built, deployed and tested together.
What's new
Reagent Pouch access to a Soul Well now follows Zombie Village's own ownership rules. Sneak + right-click a Soul Well with the pouch to pull reagents out of it, as before — but access is now decided by Zombie Village itself, so it works for the well's owner and the owner's friends, and nobody else. If you don't have access, the pouch says so instead of quietly doing nothing.
This closed a real multiplayer hole on the Zombie Village side: the old shared plumbing carried no notion of who was reaching in, so any player's hopper or automation could quietly drain someone else's well. That plumbing is gone.
Fixed
- Your minions and villagers can hurt hostile players again. A long-standing bug treated every player as if they were somebody's minion, so any owned creature — Zombie Village villagers included — swung at players for zero damage and then lost track of its target, producing a visible stutter. Owned creatures now deal normal damage to players who aren't their owner. Your own minions still can't hurt you, and you still can't hurt them.
- An angered iron golem can hit you again — the same bug was zeroing villager and golem damage against players.
- Pulling from a container no longer opens the pouch on top of it. Every sneak + right-click transfer was popping the Reagent Pouch's own screen over the result. The transfer works as before; the interruption is gone.
- Sneak + right-clicking an empty chest now opens the chest. It was doing nothing at all — the pouch found nothing to move and then failed to hand the click back to the container.
- The Crafter is no longer treated as storage. Right-clicking one with a pouch in hand pushed reagents into its recipe grid instead of opening it. It opens normally now.
Under the hood
- The Soul Well integration is a soft dependency resolved at runtime; with Zombie Village absent, or older than 4.57.310, nothing breaks — the pouch simply reports that well access is unavailable and the well opens as usual.
- The reflective bridge distinguishes "you were denied" from "the other mod couldn't answer", so a version mismatch can never tell a well's actual owner that they lack access.
Requires / compatible with
- Minecraft 1.21.1
- NeoForge 21.1.224+
- Optional: Zombie Village 4.57.310+ for Soul Well pouch access (4.57.317 is the tested companion build)
- Optional: Quality Equipment (wand reforging), any per-dimension difficulty mod (
[dimension_power])
Migration notes
- No config or world changes. Existing wands, pouches and minions are untouched.
- If you run Zombie Village, update it alongside this release — an older Zombie Village leaves Soul Well pouch pulls unavailable (with an in-game notice explaining why) until it is updated.
