What is Species?
Species is the first mod in the RPG+ series, created to bring more roleplay possibilities to Minecraft through each character’s identity, with a strong focus on player interaction.
When you begin your adventure, you choose a species and experience the world through its unique traits. That choice goes beyond appearance: every species has its own abilities, interactions, situational advantages, and a few limitations, all designed to make characters feel different without heavily restricting how each player wants to play.
The idea is not to turn every species into a rigid class or punish players with severe drawbacks. A dwarf can still explore the ocean, just as an Aquarian can build a base far from water. But when a group starts taking advantage of each character’s strengths, cooperation and roleplay naturally begin to happen. Early in a world, for example, you might ask your dwarf friend to help with your equipment, while the Aquarian may be the best choice to search shipwrecks and structures deep underwater.
The goal is simple: make your chosen species feel present throughout the adventure, creating new ways to play, cooperate, and roleplay your character without taking away the freedom Minecraft gives you.
Choose Your Species
Choose your species, customize your character, and discover how its traits can change the way you interact with the world — and with other players.

Half-Giant

Large, powerful, and difficult to ignore, Half-Giants have an imposing physical presence and shine whenever strength, resilience, and impact make a difference.
Their identity revolves around combat, presence, and control of space, offering the feeling of playing a larger and more powerful character without preventing them from taking part in the other aspects of the adventure.

Kobold

Small, restless, and naturally connected to fire, Kobolds make up for their size with agility, cleverness, and an unusual affinity for flames.

Persistent and distant from the very idea of life, the Undead have a striking presence and a different relationship with creatures and dangers that normally affect other characters.
Their identity revolves around resilience, atmosphere, and supernatural traits, making them a good choice for players who enjoy darker characters and incorporating their unusual condition into both exploration and roleplay.
Create Your Character
Choosing your species is only the beginning. Customize your character’s appearance and decide how they will be represented throughout the adventure.

Each species has its own visual options, including body types, faces, and specific features where applicable. The system was designed to preserve the identity of each species while still allowing different players to create visually distinct characters.
You are also not limited to the mod’s customization options. If you prefer, you can continue using your own skin normally, keeping the freedom to represent your character however you want.
The idea is for your appearance to reflect the choice you made at the beginning of your journey and help reinforce who your character is within the world.
Items and Blocks
Beyond the unique traits of each species, Species also adds a selection of items and blocks designed to complement the experience and better integrate those differences into the Minecraft world.
Species Compendium
The Species Compendium works as an in-game guide. It lets you learn about the different species, check their traits, and better understand what makes each one unique.

New Doors
Characters of different sizes also need structures that make sense for them. That’s why Species adds new door variants, including options designed for both larger and smaller characters.

Species includes a few utility and administrator commands for managing species selection.

FAQ
Here are a few common questions about Species, its development, compatibility, and what I have planned for the RPG+ series.
Can I use my own skin?
Yes. Species customization is optional. You can keep using your own skin normally if you prefer to create your character’s appearance outside the mod’s customization system.
Does Species work in singleplayer?
Yes. Although Species was designed with a strong focus on roleplay and player interaction, every species can also be used normally in a singleplayer adventure.
Is Species part of other mods?
Species is the first mod in the RPG+ series. The projects in this series are designed to add different roleplay elements to Minecraft and can complement each other.
What is RPG+?
RPG+ is a series of mods I plan to develop mainly for players who enjoy RPGs, roleplay, and creating different experiences inside Minecraft.
I’m personally a big fan of this kind of game, and that is the main motivation behind the project. I’m not a programmer or an artist — and my pixel art probably makes that pretty obvious — but I enjoy turning RPG ideas into mechanics that can create new situations, stories, and interactions between players.
Species is just the first step in that idea.
Do you plan to add integrations with other mods?
Yes. I plan to create integrations with a few mods that I really enjoy and that fit naturally with Species.
One example is Born in Chaos, which has some really interesting synergy with the Undead and could open up new interactions and roleplay possibilities.
If there’s a mod you think would work well with Species, feel free to leave your suggestions!
Will there be a Fabric or Forge version?
Yes for Forge 1.20.1. I’m preparing this version for players who still use that generation of Minecraft.
For Fabric, however, I currently have no plans to develop a version. From this point forward, the main focus will be NeoForge, especially so Species can keep evolving without relying on external addons for some of its mechanics, as happened with Pehkui.
Will there be more species?
Maybe. The current selection was designed to form the main foundation of Species, so I don’t plan to keep adding new species indefinitely to the base mod.
AI Assistance
Species was developed with the assistance of AI tools. AI was used as a support tool during development, especially for coding, debugging, code review.
The concepts, species design, gameplay mechanics, balance decisions, visual, testing, final development, and the ""artwork"" was also made by me — unfortunately.
Credits & Thanks
Thank you to everyone who gives Species a try. I hope the mod creates fun moments, new stories, and a few good reasons to play Minecraft differently with your friends.
If you find bugs, have suggestions, or simply want to share your experience, feedback is always welcome. It helps me understand what works, what can be improved, and where the project should go next.
A special thanks to my wife and friends, who challenged me to turn this idea into something real. Without that push, Species probably would never have started.
And one last thing: English is not my first language, so I apologize in advance for any strange wording or mistakes you may find in the mod or on this page. I’ll keep improving it along with everything else.
