Description

Soul Grinder 3.0 — Potato Mayhem

Soul Grinder is a soul-powered technology and progression mod that combines mystical energy, automation, exploration, cooking, brewing, and Guild progression.

Capture the essence of defeated mobs, process their souls, generate loot, and construct increasingly powerful multiblock machines.

Whether you prefer exploring, fighting, trading, or building automated factories, Soul Grinder offers multiple paths through its progression.

Core Gameplay

Step 1: Discover Soul Energy

Defeat mobs  to collect the rare drop Soul Fragments.

More dangerous creatures can provide stronger fragments, which are used to craft higher-tier soul technology.

Step 2: Capture Souls

Craft Empty Soul Jars and use them to capture mob souls during combat.

Each filled Soul Jar preserves the identity of the captured creature for later processing.

Step 3: Create Soul Tokens

Use the Soul Infuser to bind captured souls into Soul Tokens.

The soul stored inside a token determines which creature’s loot the Soul Grinder can produce.

Step 4: Build a Soul Grinder

Construct a complete Soul Grinder multiblock, provide it with fuel or Forge Energy, and insert a Soul Token.

The grinder processes the soul and generates loot based on the captured creature’s loot table.

Step 5: Advance Through the Tiers

Progress from a compact starter machine to the enormous Tier 5 Soul Grinder.

Higher tiers support stronger souls, improved processing speeds, expanded capabilities, and more advanced components.

Step 6: Automate Everything

Connect input and output hatches, provide FE or fuel, collect generated loot, and extract XP Fluid.

Soul Grinder is designed to support both manual progression and large automated factories.

Additional Features

Soul Analyzer

Use the Soul Analyzer to inspect filled Soul Jars and discover which items a captured creature can produce.

Forge Energy Support

Power Soul Grinders using FE, allowing them to integrate with many popular technology mods.

Traditional fuel-based operation remains available.

XP Fluid Generation

Convert processed soul energy into XP Fluid for storage, transport, and automation.

Ghastly Appetite

The Ghastly Appetite status effect increases Soul Fragment drop rates by 20% per level.

Modpack-Friendly Configuration

Soul Grinder includes configuration options for balancing:

  • Mob loot
  • Processing difficulty
  • Machine progression
  • Brewing
  • Guild contracts
  • Trades and rewards
  • Research
  • Custom boss drops

Universal Mob Support

Soul Grinder reads Minecraft’s existing entity loot tables.

This allows it to process loot from vanilla, modded, and custom creatures without requiring individual compatibility patches.

If another mod adds a creature with a valid loot table, Soul Grinder can usually process its soul automatically.

Some creatures—such as the Wither or Ender Dragon—use special world-based reward systems instead of ordinary entity loot tables.

The SGMobLootConfig system allows modpack creators to add or override loot for these creatures, configure custom drops, adjust chances, and create unique rewards.

Updating from Soul Grinder 2.0.1

Soul Grinder 3.0 includes migration mappings for known renamed blocks, items, machines, hatches, Soul Jars, entities, fluids, and menus.

Always back up your world before updating and test a copied world first.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.20.1
  • Minecraft Forge
  • GeckoLib — required dependency

Bug reports, balancing feedback, suggestions, and ideas are always welcome!
