Solar’s Obsidian Expansion

Solar’s Obsidian Expansion gives Obsidian a full survival progression system, turning it from a mostly portal-focused block into a complete material path with shards, crystals, ingots, tools, armour, and the powerful new metal known as Luminite.

In vanilla Minecraft, Obsidian is strong, blast-resistant, and important for Nether portals, but it doesn't have many uses beyond that. This mod expands Obsidian into a proper gear progression system while keeping it simple, survival-friendly, and vanilla-style.

Obsidian Changes

Obsidian now has more progression value.

Now, when Obsidian is mined with a Diamond Pickaxe or better, it drops 1-4 Obsidian Shards instead of the full block. To collect regular Obsidian blocks directly, you need Silk Touch.

Obsidian Gear

Obsidian gear is designed to feel heavy, durable, and defensive.

Obsidian tools are strong and long-lasting, but slightly slower than those made from lighter materials. They are useful for players who want powerful gear with a tough, reinforced feel.

Obsidian armour is built for defence. It has strong protection, high durability, toughness, and knockback resistance, making it a solid tank-style armour set.

Obsidian gear is best for players who want:

High durability
Strong defense
Heavy tanky armour
Some minor debuffs (e.g. slightly higher gravity, lower movement/sneaking speed)
Some minor buffs (e.g. lower burning time, knockback resistance)
Reliable tools
A strong upgrade before Luminite

Luminite Gear

Luminite is the final material path of the mod.

Created by combining Hardened Obsidian with Amethyst and Ender Pearls, Luminite is a bright purple metal with a more magical identity than regular Obsidian.

Luminite tools are stronger, faster, and more advanced than Obsidian tools. Luminite armour is also more powerful, with better mobility-focused features.

Luminite gear is best for players who want:

Strong final-tier tools
High durability
Better movement
Reduced gravity
A magical purple endgame armour set
A true upgrade from Obsidian gear

Obsidian is about raw strength and defence.
Luminite is about turning that strength into something more refined.

In my opinion, Obsidian has always felt like it should be more important. It is one of Minecraft’s strongest blocks, but it has very few uses once you already have a Nether portal and an enchanting table.

Solar’s Obsidian Expansion fixes that by giving Obsidian a full progression system.

Break it into shards.
Refine it into crystals.
Forge it into ingots.
Craft it into gear.
Then upgrade it into Luminite.
